Well, you can make a tough, padded, case cheaply that will hold anything you want it to- pretty cheaply! As a bonus, it offers thermal protection as well!
You need:
Silver Mylar/bubble insulation- from your local home center. It comes in rolls of differing sizes. A smallsih role will provide a lot of cases for a lot of things cheaply.
Silver metal foil tape for the above- sold alongside it, or colored duct tape.
Self-adhesive hook and loop fastener, like Velcro. You will need both the hook and loop sides.
Basic protective case technique (for PDS's, mini-TV's, CD players, etc.):
Basic Technique:
Make a 'box' with a lid and a fastening flap for your device.
Draw a rectangle around the device, then extend each side out as far as the deive is thick- you will have a thick 'cross' shape now.
Add a cover flap on whichever side you want, making it the same size the back was.
Add a fastening flap wherever you want it- usually on the other side of the top flap or on the opposite side of the box.
Cut it out. Fold up the sides and tape them securely. Fold over the top and fastening flap. Stick Velcro on the right places to hold the flaps together.
You can easily make cut-outs for cables, speakers, panel access, etc.- even cut a little flap that can be secured with a small dab of Velcro!
You can also add attachment rings for a sling, belt-loops, etc. with just a little ingenuity!
You can also add pockets, with or without flaps, by just taping more bubble wrap onto the outside of the original case.
For a PDA, this is not real attractive, but it is nice and secure for outdoor use, or when the PDA is rattling around inside a purse, briefcase, etc.
If concerned that the silver foil will create static, or otherwise bother your device, try self-adhesive thin foam sheeting inside- available at most hobby stores (often near the stamping products!)
