Question

I'm at a point where I'm running out of space on my 16MB card, and I was wondering if anyone here has used one of these CF Adapter Springboards.

I'm thinking of buying one, but I would like to hear as many comments about them as possible. Are there any real negatives to using one? Is there a memory limit to the capacity of CF card one can use with the Visor? I have a Prism.

Any help would be appreciated!

I have Innopocket CF Adapter and Memplug Smart Media Adapter.

Actually I like both of them. If you just use it for file storage only, I recommend you to buy Innopocket CF adapter, because it's faster to move file around, especially large file. If you want more feature like viewing video, pictures directly from Smart Media card or Backup your prism; go with Memplug.
Memplug is slow for moving files, but you can view your docs directly from smart media.

I like both of them.

Ok good luck! I hope this is useful for you.

CF Springboard Modules?

What I'm looking to do is put my entire medical compendium on one storage medium. I have about 20 medical books that I want to have in one place.

When I had an E-125, this wasn't a problem, as they all easily fit on my 1GB MicroDrive. I'm just not familiar with how the Palm OS accesses these things through the Visor's springboard.

Will there be a noticeable lag in access time? Can I run these apps from the SmartMedia or the CF card?

Thanks for the help, by the way! I'm looking to make a decision tonight and order it in the morning.

If your file is bigger than 64mb, than go with Compact Flash because the biggest smart media card you can buy right now is 64 mb. If you go with CF solution, you need to move the File to your visor ram first before you can use it.
If you go with memplug you need to move the file to your visor ram before you can use it, but some application like CSpotrun, Gmedia Video player can access their database directly from the smart media card without moving it to visor ram first.

If there is any more question, please ask.

You can check the review for memplug here.

notes: You cannot use Microdrive, because the power required for microdrive is bigger than springboard slot can handle!

So, I can't transfer the files to the CF and then just access them from the Visor?

You need to copy it first to your visor ram.

You should also know that these aren't realy Springboards, they are just adapters that use the spring board slot, because they don't include any software, and are passive...

CF Module

Does anyone have experience with NxDrive-CF? I am interested in purchasing it. I understand it has file mover app on card. Also on their web site in Q & A section it mentions AutoRun feature they're working on. Does this mean you can run apps off the CF card in future? I'd like an encyclopedia on my prism.

I purchased the MatchBook CD Adapter MD-001 and a 64Mb Sandisk CF. I have been very happy with both of them.

I'm still waiting for my Memplug but anyway, once you format the card, you should be able to dump whatever you want to the card using a reader from your desktop. The trouble will be actuallt reading the file(s) from the card. CSpotRun appears to work that way as well as the SW that comes with the Springboard.

I have a MemPlug, and yes, you can use CSpotRun to access doc files directly off of the SM card. There are also apps to view .JPG files and movie clips off of the card, but I think those aren't quite 'ready for prime time' yet
