Prism as Doc reader?

Hello,

I just read some e-books (Doc- file) of about 7KB and noticed it drained the battery for 50%..
Ofcourse I know that the battery of the Prism is going down faster than other batteries, but I just wondered if any of you have experience with reading e-books "off line" on the Prism.
What is the best option for travel? I have a travel charger and BattPlug. Is it recommended to connect the BattPlug right away when you're in an airplane and no outlet is available?

What program are you using to read the e-books? Certain programs may sap more battery power than others. I use TealDoc, it's not free. I also have CSpotRun but I haven't tried it yet. I don't know if it costs anything since it came with my CF MemPlug.

Also, you may want to turn the brightness down as low as you can stand while you're reading the ebook. It's easier on the eyes to have the brightness all the way up but it definitely saps the battery faster!

One last change you might make is to underclock your reader program. A good reader program shouldn't need 33MHz to run smoothly. Afterburner is nice for that, I'd recommend other clock altering programs, but I use Afterburner and I don't remember the names of any others.

Any real USER of a Prism should have the BattPlug (www.visorsolutions.com)- cheap, reliable, effective- darn near perfect! Other travel power sources are helpful, but the BattPlug is small, light, easy to carry, and can be used no matter what other options you may have.

You HAVE to turn the brightness down to settle in for a long read, otherwise it sucks juice too fast.

I never noticed too much drain using CSpotRun, Palm Reader, or iSilo- but it occurs to me that you may be using the MemPlug. Some formats of cards suck juice faster than others- if you are using the MemPlug CF, for example, it uses power faster than the SM version does- but not enough to justify this being the only buying consideration- especially if you have a travel charger.

I use the CSpotRun reader that came with my MemPlug CF adapter. It's easy to use and serves it purpose to me..
Ofcourse I bought the BattPlug as well, so I might call myself a Real Prism User...:-)
I'll turn down the brightness the next time. Thanks for the tip!
Madkins: When travelling is it better to connect the BattPlug rightaway or doesn't it matter? I presume that when the BattPlug is connected the Prism uses the battery power and not its LiIon accu...

You can use the BattPlug to power the Prism while reading.
It will drain the BattPlug batteries faster than if you used it to
charge the Prism while the Prism is off. Just keep extra batteries
on hand! Thanks for all the endorsements!
