I am frustratingly trying to figure out what case to get for my new Visor Deluxe. The one thing that has amazed me in my short time reading this board is how it seems that NOBODY uses HS cases whether it be the simple cases it comes with, the slim wallet case, or the premier cases. I'm trying to figure out why this is.

Is it because...

(a) most of the people on this board simply prefer a good belt clip as opposed to a bifold which most HS cases are.

(b) HS cases have a reputation for being terrible. Is this cracking problem as serious and widespread as it seems? (I've read the discussion in this forum about it, but is it simply accepted among experienced Visor users that one does not get HS cases because of this cracking problem?)

or

(c) There are better leather bifold cases at a reasonable price available somewhere that I have not been able to locate as of yet. (Obviously, I am open to recommendations.)

This is all very frustrating. I like the EB Slipper, but I hate the velcro (if only it had a snap!). I like the Rhodiana, but I want leather. I like the Vaja, but don't really like the price (or the fact that you can't get it without the beltclip). I like the HS designs, but I don't want my Visor to crack.

Any opinions on HS cases or other case options for my needs that I might have missed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

For me it's both utility and style. I currently use three different cases for my Visor, (Franklin, Rhodiana, Aqua Pack) depending on my immediate need, and have a fourth (Vaja) on order. When my spouse protested the other day there was no need for me to reply because she worked through it herself, "It's like you've got all these different outfits!" she said and as she thought about her purses, that was the end of the discussion!

I've read plenty of posts from folks who are just find with the HS cases, but everyone has their own preference and needs. Since I've got my IVX with me all the time, I need to make sure that what it's carried in is appropriate to the setting. For all-purpose use, though, I think the Rhodiana is hard to beat! I'm getting the Vaja because of the more "professional" appearance.

I have some of both and the HS cases aren't that bad but for the price and functions (belt clip, durability ie.) there are better choices. I personally went on others reccommendations of the cobra case at http://www.covertec.com and haven't been upset at all. The case is very durable and reasonably priced as well as the company is amazing... I got mine in less than 24 hours when the site say it ships in 24 hours and can take 2 days to get there. The visor isn't held in by velcro but rather by the faceplate cover the only velcro on the case at all is around the button which is located on the back of the case instead of the face so no worrys about cracking the glass. Unfortuneately there is no leather ones available right now and you have the belt clip but I found this as a plus myself.

I guess what I'm saying is that the HS cases are ok but not amazing for the price and quality. Goodluck on your search.

I've only had one case, which was a handspring case, which I sold.

It was an OK case, but the case constantly would press down on the buttons, causing it to beep. Just annoying.

Then, without a case, I dropped my visor and it broke.

Now I am procrastinating on getting a new one, and from the research I've done, it simply comes down to the fact that there are a lot of better designed cases than Handspring's.

I think it's fine

I've had my Slim Handspring bifold case since I got my VDX last October (or was it November?). I've had no complaints or problems with it. It's extemely functional and it's gone with me half way round the world (I put the VDX in backwards with the screen facing the sewn-in cover).

I think a lot of people get so intimately attached to their PDAs (whichever brand they have)that they want to have a "special" case that betokens the relationship. My wife has a Palm IIIxe and got the $110 Coach case. My 13 year old daughter has a Palm IIIe (my cast off) and has a mock zebra Incipio case (she also had me buy a lime green translucent shell case for it in place of the original grey).

It's not the case, its usually more a statement about the user. Maybe I'm making a statement too with the simple, utilitarian slim case (but a VDX a chock full of programs, an 8mb card, modem, chrome stylus and a Targus fold-up keyboard. :-)

I've got a Handspring case in blue to match my Visor. I like it just fine. It has protected my visor through several drops, even one where it landed flat, face down on my driveway and slid several feet! Whew!! I too believe that it is a matter of preference. I personaly don't want a belt type case. I prefer to carry it or have it in my pants pocket (for short periods of time). I would advise to get the style/type case that appeals to you. Just ensure that the case has adequate built in protection for the Visor and screen.

I don't like the clip-on cover plate so I rule all such cases out of hand. Sounds to me like you are a perfect candidate to purchase the Devian DVP-7. Stil the best IMHO

When I first bought my Visor, I bought Handspring�s Bifold Leather Case. [notepad, slots for 6 cards, pen holder, extra-stylus holder, and 2 pockets � one behind Visor and the other behind the card slots] It worked great for me, for a while � it doubled as my entire wallet. The only reason that I rarely carry it now is, I didn�t like carrying my wallet, in my hand, around with me at work all day. The case itself is great. I never had any problems with the quality.

Since I mostly wanted a case for when I was at work, I purchased the E&B Slipper Case w/ beltclip. It is now my favorite � the only time it�s out of the case now is when I change batteries, or use the Handspring Modem.

I guess I�ll have to buy another case, if the MiniJam ever comes out. With the amount of memory it has, there�s a pretty good chance that it will stay in the Springboard slot most of the time, so I won�t be able to use the Slipper. <sigh>

I went to the site you suggested dequardo. The DVP10 sounds perfect for me. Unfortunately there are no pictures on the site?!?! Unless I'm blind of course. I don't think I'll be droppin' the kind o' coin on something without having any idea what it looks like.

I use the HS Slim leather case. Haven't had it for long. Nothing too impressive but works. I don't think there would be tons of protection but I haven't dropped it yet to find out. I'm gonna wait for a while if at all possible before the durability test.

The problem I have withthe Handspring case i... it's backward.

Friend of mine go the green VDx and a green case. He dropped back to the standard case, I tried his Handspring case for a while, then went out for a Palm belt case.

1. I like the clip-in on the Handspring case. It's a neat idea (though I can see how you might crack the back if you take it out and put it in a lot).

2. It's backwards. With the Visor on the right, if I hold it in my left hand I'm holding the front flap, not the back flap, so I can't hold it firmly. What I'd really like would be something that flips over like a Star Trek tricorder.

3. It's bulky. It's too big to carry in my trouser pocket... the Palm belt case, even with the clip, is easier to carry loose.

But really I think the big problem is that it's backwards. I'd have to unpick it and flip the clip over if I was actually using it.

Slim Leather Case

I have used the Handspring slim leather case since purchasing my Visor in February. It is very high quality, works great and I have no complaints. I do tend to carry it in my briefcase, but if the function is protect the Visor, I have found that this case does a great job, as well as looking attractive.
