Hi, everyone, I am a "going to be" new visor owner. Just place an order through its web site. I have so many questions that I have in mind now.

1. Do any of you know how long will it take them to deliver my visor? I live in Los Angeles and I used express shipping option.

2. I have been reading on many messages which posted recently. Lots of people are saying visor's screen is very easy to get scratches (I guess it the same way with all the PDA), can someone show me a way to prevent those scratches, such a putting a plastic on top of it(if so, how??)?

3. Third, it seems like many people don't like the original stylus which comes with Visor, can someone show me where to get a good stylus. And for how much?

I want to get everything prepare (such as cover and stylus) before my visor arrives. I am so exciting for this device. I think I'll love it!!

Thanks for everyone's help..

Talking

Hi gina

I am also a new BVDx owner. I've had mine for a week. All the information you'll need are in these discussions called "threads."

Just look around and you'll find (almost) everything you'll need.

As for the screen scratching easily, Mine has had no problems. I am using the original stylus and the only thing I don't like about it is the weight. I'd like one a bit heavier.

Good Luck and Happy Visoring

1. 3 weeks ago (when I ordered mine) I would have said in 2 weeks or less. To find out how shipping is currently going, check out another thread here at VisorCentral: Visor Received Log on the Ordering / Shipping board.

2. Read alot of posts to confirm or find better info. But, in summary, some people say that the screens take some time to completely harden (and that this is common for many PDAs). Also, many people complained that the styli that came with their Visors were defective and scratched their screens. I did not have this problem. A screen protector can help protect the screen. I recommend ordering the Survival Kit from outpost.com

3. See above. i recommend the STYLUS+ 4-way Multi-purpose pen. See the review.

1) I ordered my visor on 1/23 and it was shipped on 1/25, then my credit card was charged on 1/26. I used the ground shipping option (usually it doesn't make a difference for me) and I will receive it sometime next week. My advice is if you get curious call the 1 888 number and keep calling until you get someone curteous and helpful.

2) About the screen, from what I hear it does take 6 months to fully harden, so until then check out some of the postings around here regarding that. I am going to try transparencies (cut to size and tucked under the sides to cover the whole screen) and maybe vinyl. I just can't justify spending 25 bucks on rightwrites. But I would definitely use something because, if your screen does scratch and need replacements, it costs 70 bucks...much more expensive than a sheet of transparency paper.

3) Personally, while I was thinking of using the stock visor, for 5 bucks or so I got a blue visor from the 5 pack sold on the handspring site. The way I see, it it's a better stylus and hey, it's only 5 bucks. Some posters here swear by the PDA panache (www.pdalife.com ?) and it does look like it is a pretty good stylus. Basically it's up to your preference, the original stylus is not weighted so if you want something heavier that you will need a replacement.

Well I hope that answers your questions, if you're thinking about other info, look around and read some of the other posts, and then combine the opinions and form your own.

Thumbs up

1) I ordered my Visor on 1/23 and it got delivered on 1/27. I'm in Michigan and ordered Express so I assume you should get yours in Ca. pretty quickly.

2 & 3) I read all about the screen scratches before I bought mine so I ordered some Writeright sheets from http://www.onsale.com but haven't received them yet. You need to order the Palm III compatable sheets. I also ordered a highly recommended stylus from PDA Panache at http://www.pdapanache.com for $15. They have some specifically made for the Visor. Finally, I would not recommend using the stylus that actually comes with the Visor. It seems that people are having the most trouble with those. Until my PDA Panache stylus arrives, I'm borrowing from a friend one of the deluxe styli that Handspring sells. I have had no problems with scratching whatsoever and I've been using the Visor an awful lot. My girlfriend, a PDA novice like myself, has been using it quite a lot as well.

Cool

Shipping to Iowa was oh, 1 week I think.

Screen scratch avoidance:
Among the other suggestions, it has been suggested that you examine the stock stylus very closely and if needed, use an emory board or fingernail file to smooth off the tip.
What I suggest is going to Walmart to the crafts department and buying a 1/3 yard of vinyl, the thinnest you can get. I spent about oh...50 cents for that 1/3 yard - which is a whole lot of screen protectors. Cut it to fit and lay it in place using a credit card for a squeegee to smooth out the bubbles.
It works wonders and doesn't cloud the screen all that much.

Enjoy your new visor - I know I like mine.
