Sometime yesterday, I started getting this error message appearing in the HotSync Log after doing a HotSync. This happens every single time I HotSync now. It doesn't seem to have any adverse effects, in fact the Visor doesn't show any kind of error in its log, the error only appears on the desktop software.

Oh, I'm running the Mac software, on MacOS 9. Here's the relevant snippet from the log:

------------------------------------------

HotSync started 11/25/99 10:34:03 AM

Local Synchronization
Icon
- Failed with error number 4114
OK Install with 1 message(s)
OK To Do List
OK Memo Pad
OK Date Book
OK Address Book
Icon
- Failed with error number 4114
OK Install with 1 message(s)
Backed up hotdateDB.pdb
Backed up LODE_ORIGINAL.pdb
(etc)

------------------------------------------

Has anyone ever seen this or anything? I have no idea what this "Icon" is that causes the error message. I don't remember trying to install anything with "Icon" in the name either.

TIA,
-Jack

Under the Palm folder, find the Users folder and then a folder that is named after you HotSync user name. Look for a file named Icon in that folder and in one of its sub-folders (most likely Backup and/or Install). You can also use the Find utaility on your Mac (Command-F from the desktop or Finder) to search for Icon on your local drive. I've encountered unexplainable situations where MacOS 9 created a file named Icon on a Mac (BTW, if someone knows why this happens, please post). If you find this file somewhere under your HotSync user folder (or one of its sub-folders), try moving it out somewhere else (the Desktop, for example) or delete it if you're sure you don't need it, and see if this puts an end to the error messages.

Thanks for the pointer! As it turned out, there was no file named "Icon" (a Sherlock search turned up nothing), but when I opened the "Install Handheld Files" window in HotSync Manager, I saw that it contained something called "Icon" in its list of things to install! I removed it from the list, and since then haven't seen the problem again.
