Hotsync a Prism in a Platinum Cradle?

Is it possible to hotsync a Prism with a platinum cradle? I know the Prism comes with a cradle, but it is USB and I don't have USB. I also REALLY don't want to shell out an extra $50 for a charging serial cradle. So, will this setup work: Charge the Prism in the cradle it comes with in my room (easier access) while still syncing in the Plat cradle? Or, if not, could one disassemble the plat cradle and put the serial PCB into the Prism cradle or something like that?

The Prism is thicker than the Platinum and therefore won't fit in the cradle.

I'm not sure if it's possible the swap the PCB's between the two cradles, but since both devices utilize the same connector, if you could pull it off it should work.
