Thumbs up

...Despite the good advice of those on this board, I decided that I should get the VPL instead of the Edge. While it's not the coolest or the sexiest, I LOVE it.

Why I chose:

1) Accessories. My cable for my startac is very important to me, as is the stowaway. Couldn't do without them for three months.
2) Cost. Yep. 100 bucks less. (Edge is selling for 330 at Best Buy here in MN)
3) Improves on the VDX in every way but form. Incluing looks: I like it!
4) Er, unwillingness to display ingratitude: I just got the stowaway as a gift like 2 weeks ago, to return in in order to fund an Edge purchase would have been, well, bad. Plus, as mentioned earlier, I need that kb now...

I really wanted to get that edge, but it didn't meet my needs just yet. Hell, when the accessories are there, I'll pony up the cash again.

Thanks for your advice, d-r and toby, and not just regarding this specific decision. It's all about meeting personal needs, and for the time being, the VPL is the perfect visor for me.

...oh, and lord god on high, it is fast!!

Glad to have helped in some way. I'm sure you'll like the Platinum just fine. Besides, maybe a color version of the Edge will be available by the time you're ready to upgrade. Out of curiosity, did you get the graphite or the silver version?

Ditching the Plat. Just ordered the Edge!!

Ok, here's what I said:

There's a cable for the Edge, I'm getting it.

only 50 bucks difference now, and I haven't send the rebate in yet, so I don't even notice that!

Form now improved. Looks: best I've seen.

I'll get the new kb in august (in time for grad school), so it's not so much that I'm ingracious, but I'm just improving the gift (right?? Right??? )

Handspring: I love the new program. Thank you.

Cool Staying with the Plat...

Hi

I was going to take advantage of the $100 rebate for trading up to an Edge and choose not to after going to CompUSA to hold one in my hot little hands. Here's what bothered me.

It's seemed flimsy (spelling?), I felt like I could and would break it easy. My Plat has held up realy nice even after a fall or three.

I got to say that when I help the Edge up with the Palm 5x then Palm felt stronger.

These are my thoughts...

Max

I find it weird that so many people have such widely differing views on this! I think the Edge is Rock Steady, mades the Plat feel like, well, like a piece of plastic. My edge went flying out of my shirtpocket to land on it's corner on concrete. Nothing but a little scuff. The Plat would have ended spectacularly... As for the durability of the V and M5 series, I can speak to that.

I do know that the Silver Edge looked cheap to me for some reason, that white translucent plastic seemed cheap... the deep, dark blue on the edge looks pretty professional, IMHO...

Can you be more specific as to how it felt flimsy?
