Lightbulb

I just jumped into USB head-first, with both a Visor and a new Photosmart printer. After buying a cheap hub (quote from deja.com: "All hubs are the same..."), I've had no end of difficulty with both devices. I'd never successfully hotsync, and print jobs would cut out just a few seconds in.

The device is a Belkin hub - the cheapest one they make, but it's translucent and has blinkey-lights.

I've since returned it for the Belkiin ExpressBus hub ($89 Cdn.). Guess what? NO problems!

You really do get what you pay for.

Anyone considering hanging their Visor from a hub should strongly consider this at purchase time; anyone with existing problems (but the Visor syncs properly without the hub in-between) should think about blaming their hub.

I agree that all hubs are not made equal, but you don't have to spend $90 for one.

Get a D-Link 4 port hub... does an EXCELLENT job and only costs $30.

Howdy Larry!

$30 American is about $45 Canadian; that's quite a bit cheaper than the $89 I paid, but depending on which Canadian city you live in it can be hard to find certain brands. All of the Future Shops in Winnipeg carry Belkin hubs, which makes selection rather limited. And considering my first experience, I didn't want to go mail-order in case I had a repeat performance.

So without generalizing, it's safe at least to say that one should avoid the econo-Belkin model. At $40 Cdn., it would most likely sell for about $25 American.
