Plucker!
I'd recommend Plucker to anybody who has rudimentary Unix skills... I installed it a couple of weeks ago and it works great! Basically, you need to first download and install Python, then install Plucker, and neither of these are very Mac-friendly procedures, but they do go smoothly from the command-line. Here's what I did:
- Install Python.
I downloaded and installed a package containing a precompiled python 2.2 plus some optional bundles from http://redivi.com/~bob/ all wrapped up in one nice Mac OS X Installer package. It's size may be a drawback for some (it's a 35.1mb package), so if you need something a little smaller you might want to try the 5.9mb python 2.1 package from http://tony.lownds.com/macosx/ (I haven't tried this one personally, so I don't know if it works with Plucker, but I'd guess that it probably does)
- Install Plucker.
Go to http://www.plkr.org/index.pl/article015 and download the "binary-only version (tarball, 833k)", unpack it and follow the directions in the INSTALL file. It's fairly straightforward AFAIR.
- Configure the S.O.B.
This is not the most straightforward thing in the world. Plucker creates and uses a set of configuration files that have to be edited by hand, but it really shouldn't be too bad for most people.
Even for people who don't have much Unix command-line experience, I guess I'd recommend installing this if you have any interest in getting such experience. It's really a pretty easy install (compared to trying to compile/port other programs). Don't be afraid!
