Very nice. Looks like the overall user interface is top-notch.

BUT...

1) It's not CDMA. I'll buy the CDMA version when it comes out. (No flames about GSM being a world wide standard - I live in the USA, and in the USA CDMA beats GSM in every respect.)

2) Too expensive. Top of the line CDMA phones only cost around $200.

When the VisorPhone hits $200 for the CDMA version I'll buy it.

Cool

YES! This is exactly what I got my Visor for. It has even more than I expected. My $200 Nokia screen and pad makes it too hard to enter data and it doesnt vibrate. Nice that I live in Pac Bell country too. (although I am still waiting for DSL a month after getting my modem.) Now I can get lost, use GPS to find out where I am, call some one to get me and listen to MP3 while waiting. I WANT IT NOW!

Lightbulb One more thought . .

When I hold my visor up to the side of my head I hear a small hum (loud hum if back light is one).

No enough to interfere, but the color Palms really hum . . .

My only problem is that the VisorPhone doesn't have anything similar to Nokia's Profiles and Caller Groups.

Yep; it seems particularly daft building a GSM module that's only single band these days, severely limiting its usefulness.

A dual 1900/900 model would have been useful, or better still a tri-band. I'm particularly surprised at the restriction to a single band, since it's made in partnership with a European company. One dual or tri-band model could be sold everywhere, instead of having different inventory for US and rest of the world.

With regard to caller groups, yep, they're invaluable. I have a 'private' profile that my Nokia 8210 is set to overnight which will only make a noise for calls from family and close friends.

There are a few irritations in the Nokia firmware, but not many these days - certainly compared to the downright hostility of some other brands.

Re: Re: Profiles

What I find exciting is there might be a possibility for the software on the Visorphone to be enhanced over time. Wouldn't it be great to get an update that you can download, and have a whole new set of features like what is discussed here (except where there is a hardware limitation ie. tri-band).

I only wish it contained 8mb of flash memory. Then I would never have to swap it out with another Springboard.

Question modem capability

Oooh, looks nice (except for price).

I'm very interested in the modem's ability.
Does GSM modem usually work at about 14.4 speed? What are the advantages and disadvantages of CDMA vs GSM with regard to net access?

I wonder, is there a site on the net that will act as a go-between for the SMS to ICQ / Win Messenger ? Send the message to them along with your id-password and ICQ# destination and it passes the message on? Sounds like an idea if no one has done it yet...
