Number Not on SIM ?

OK, I just got my V-phone activated. I'm noodling around with the s/w, and when I go to Phone Info from the Options menu, it says the number is not on the SIM. How do I get my own phone number onto the SIM ? It'll take me a while to remember it, and it seems ridiculous to make a phone book entry for myself...

You should probably call your cellular provider. I don't think you can change that setting on your SIM. You would need them to do that for you. I have Voicestream and it came with that info on the SIM card already. -Good luck!

The instruction book (remember those )said to call your provider and ask if they can send a message to your phone to put the number on the SIM.

I called VoiceStream and they did send (and I did receive) something, but it didn't put the number on the SIM.

So I gave up. Everything works, so I guess I don't care.

Same Experience w. Cingular

Like PDAENVY, I've had the "Number Not in SIM" message for the 2 weeks I've had my $49 VisorPhone.
- I called Handspring T/S. They said to have Cingular send me an SMS message. Even after the SMS message arrived, I've still got the "not in SIM" message.
- But the phone works fine, I can access web data & e-mail, SO I'm just ignoring thge message. The lack of such a number doesn't seem to have any impact.

You need to call your cell provider and then shut off the phone.

I had the same issue, number not on phone when I looked at the phone info. I read the manual and found the same instructions to call Voicestream. So I did. After an initial "what is a visorphone" the CSR spoke with someone and then located her reference info and was very helpful. She must have found the visorphone reference info. She told me she would send me a SMS message and that I should turn the phone off and then back on again after receiving it. After that she told me I could delete the message. Everything went exactly as she told me and I now have my cell number on my SIM and listed in the phone info.

I'd suggest calling your provider again and have them send another SMS message and be sure to power down and then back up your phone after receiving it.

p.s. I met a Voicestream rep in my hospital today that told me that they are coming out with some sort of always on access to data/internet within 6 months and that it wasn't supposed to bee too expensive. He said initial speed would be 56k but would be increased later. That would really rock!! I hope the Visorphone can use this new feature when it begins.

I ended up signing up on the Voicestream website for a MyVoicestream account. As soon as I did that, I got an message on the phone which plugged my phone number into the SIM...

Then your friends can send you goofy messages through the Voicestream website using Pingpong.

Maybe it will work for you too !

i had this as well. i called voicestream as instructed in the visorphone manual and got a series of nice-but-clueless representatives who, although they had heard of a visorphone, knew less-than-nothing about it. when the last one in that series told me that the SIM card was defective and needed to be replaced (for $19.95) i gave up on phone support and actually went to a nearby voicestream storefront.
the assistant manager at the voicestream store was very nice and actually knew almost as much about the visorphone as i did. he called voicestream's technical support on my behalf and finally got them to send a series of 0TA (?) SMS messages to my phone -- and ta-da! -- the number is now on the SIM.
at the same time, he also helped me set up the SMS messaging preferences since the message center and email center numbers were blank.
i'm really grateful to this guy and wish that i could have bought something from his store since he spent a good 30 minutes with me and didn't get a dime out of it.
i switched to voicestream/visorphone from sprintpcs because i wasn't happy with sprint's "customer service" and billing even though their phone service was pretty good; it's not encouraging to see that voicestream's "customer service" isn't any better than sprintpcs...
