I think the new VE is cool as hell, but I won't buy one for more than $300.

What are other people's "price points"?

I paid $300 for my platinum, and I think that $300 would better suit the Edge.

Sence Target is now selling the VDX for $149, the VSR isn't really needed anymore. Therefore the Platinum should now be $250, and the Edge $300. The prism whould be $400 and everyone will be happy

I really like handspring, but I think that the m505's prices, no matterhow bad the screen is, is right on..

one mroe thing. The new Jornada ($350!!!) is the bst prices point for a color PDA I've ever seen in my life.

ok..

$300 would sell me

First, my vdx works well enough to get by for a few more months, so I can wait.

Second, I really want four things for my next handheld:
1. vibrating alarm
2. ability to add/have memory beyond 8mb without loosing form factor.
3. Thinner than vdx and *V*E*R*Y* lightweight
4. Use my exhisting modem/keyboard/flash module

m500 has 1,2,3
edge has 3 and 2/3 of 4

If edge had vibrating alarm, 8mb built-in-flash + 8mb ram, and same keyboard connector, I would kill to have it. Color is unimportant. As it is now, it is just a deluxe with a thinner case, for twice the money (I already have Phone Mate, and a blinking light in my pocket is USELESS). It is not **that** much faster. Palm programs work fine with the vdx processor, it's like upgrading to 1ghz processor for faster word processing on the desktop.

M500 only misses out on using my modem and keyboard, this is the least of my wants because:
1. I don't use the keyboard much, it is too big for my pocket. I still have the deluxe and could use that with the keyboard and a different user name.
2. I will cave soon and get an annoying cell phone, so I will get a cable and have no need for the antiquated land-line modem.

I see a m500 in my futue if the edge doesn't drop AT LEAST $100 or add features.

ARE YOU LISTENING HANDSPRING???

I bet all HS models drop at least $50 when the Palm's "twins" hit the stores. But HS has no real incentive until they're out.

I think "as is" the edge is probably worth between $300 and $350. I mentioned in another thread, though, that several things would drive up the price I'd be willing to pay for it: 1) color screen >=320X320 resolution, 2) 16MB RAM, 3) Flash ROM for upgrading OS. Any single one of these would justify $399-449 to me, and all of them might be worth almost $500. Of course, the PalmOS would still be a requirement (otherwise some of the PocketPCs would already be there).

Talking

I voted $399. I bought one for that price so the answer seemed pretty straightforward.

Of course it all depends on how much money we have to burn. If I was a millionaire, I'd be swimming in a pool full of PDAs by now (trying to keep them all synced). But as my current situation demands, I wouldn't even begin considering a VE until it was $300 or less.

And even then, assuming the other prices magically went down too, I'd probably end up getting a VPL or Prism instead. :P
