broken digitizer -- help

I dropped my platinum yesterday and broke the digitizer. (At least that what I think it is. The glass below the screen is cracked in several places. The machine still works, however it won't accept input from the stylus.)

Short of sending it back to Visor to be repaired, are there places online where I can buy a replacement digitizer and install it myself. How difficult is the installation procedure? Can someone who's marginally handy with tools and fixing things handle it, or is it better left to professionals? Also, any idea on how much Visor would charge for this type of repair?

Thanks.

www.gethightech.com . I've heard it's easy to replace, but I've never tried it.

HS charged me $90 when I broke the digitizer on my VDx a long while ago. I don't know what they charge now. . .

earnieba1,

Thanks for the info. I ordered the part I need. That site also has pretty detailed instructions on how to perform this particular repair, so hopefully I'll be able to manage it.

not to worry-- easy to fix

I got a new digitzer for my vdx ($50! for something that costs maybe $5 to manuf-- seems the profit should go to HS not GetHighTech).....

anyway, the point is that replacement was pretty easy. the directions are correct.

and got my vdx back working again for $50. and by fixing this one, I didn't lose any data .
