hahahahahaha!

Okay, so I just called Corp HQ again, and THIS time I was told to go to the store manager! But the store manager tells me he has already talked to Corp HQ and they say the rebate is valid! Sigh.

heh...alanf, if I recall correctly, you were in the Tyson's Corner CUSA last week with this deal. Was that the store your friend got the credit/return/resell in? I'm dealing with Fair Lakes. The manager there told me this morning he knew of no problem with the rebate, and to just send it on in, after making copies. I should be hearing from him again tomorrow (I hope) and I bet I'll get the same news. This after corporate HQ told me late this morning that the rebate was no good. Go figure.

I wonder how CompUSA would react to the news getting hold of a company that doesn't honor rebates? I know that's who I'll contact if they don't honor my rebate.

I just got off the phone with CompUSA HQ and after going through the menu for the rebate. I spoke with a Gary there. He was very helpful and said that CompUSA is honoring the $200 rebate just on the purchase of the Prism. I asked about the modem and he said that it was just for the Prism.
He did say that I could contact me local store manager in White Plains, NY and it would be up to his discretion whether to put a credit on my credit card.

Any coupons out there?

I realize I've come to this a bit late but I bought my Visor at the right time.

I've got the scanned copy of the rebate form but I'd rather send in a real one.

Anyone got any left?

Mark B

Talking

I spoke with the folks at Handspring about the coupon. Comp USA has to honor the coupon, whether it be a mistake or not. So, I hope a lot of you were able to snag a Prim for $299.

Wow

I am amazed by all the people who would take advantage of a mistake like this. Just imagine if you owned the store and misprinted something like this that is quite obviously a mistake and all these people expect to get the rebate. Get some morals.

Please tell me how it was "quite obviously" a mistake... and how I was to know that when I plunked down $449 plus tax to purchase the product. Also, what was I to think when several staff told me the rebate was valid and pointed me to the coupon?

I disagree that this has anything to do with morals. We can debate morals and ethics until the cows come home. This isn't one of those cases. Shoddy ethics might be if I tried to send in two rebate coupons, or if I collected 200 from store and also deposited 200 check from rebate (if it ever happened).

and, COMPUSA still had the coupons available until the last hour of the last day.

Guess what? I have now spent another $150+ on products for my new Prism at COMPUSA and they've won my affection for the way the GM handled my situation. I will continue to shop there.

RE: If it was my store, and if I knew it was a mistake, and if it was a problem for me to honor the rebate offer, I would immediately pull all the coupons, put the Prisms behind lock and key and instruct all managers who retrieve the product for customers to inform them that the rebate was a mistake coupon was a misprint and that if they purchased it now it would not be honored, post a similar notice at the Prism display counter, at the cash register, and in the advertising circular or regular newspaper. I would honor all rebate requests that are made prior to the time I posted the notices and controlled customer access to the product.

None of those things happened at COMPUSA with this particular case.

cheap Prism

I found out about this deal late and would have jumped on it had I known. Is there anyone who might know a way to still work this deal?

I called CompUSA HQ and was told by the OverdueRebate guy that the rebate would be honored if the original rebate form and not a copy was used. He checked this out while I was on the phone to confirm that it was so. He also said that the GM at the store was the one responsible for a credit and resale if that is how they wanted to handle it. Of course I am afraid that I would send it to the rebate company and they would refuse it, and I would not be able to return it.

delivery confirmed

I went the route of sending in the form and pursuing the rebate as stated on the form, rather than arguing with a store manager. I just got delivery confirmation of the rebate form that I sent in. Hopefully I'll have more good news to report in a few weeks/months. Fingers crossed...

Smile *sigh of relief*

This is good to hear. So far I have not received my mail receipt, but hearing that your rebate is validated as being in the system is very comforting.

OT: Just got my Rhodiana case for my Prism today and am trying it out. Not so sure I should have gotten it with the clip, but what the hey.

I received the signed return receipt on my certified rebate letter today, so these are good signs.

Also, Amazon finally shipped my Handspring Slim Prism Case. Not as many features but I had some certificates to spare and it should do fine for me.

Talking Hope...

That's reassuring to hear, eric69.

I got my return receipt in the mail today (noting delivery at the rebate center on Feb. 1), but hadn't noticed that the fulfillment center had an online form to request confirmation (the last rebate I did, for the eyemodule, did so automatically). I submitted my info and look forward to an equally terse but encouraging e-mail.

Since the form requires you specify the department and the rebate amount ($200), and I suspect your request did and nonetheless came back as valid, it seems at least Handspring and the rebate center have talked to each other (I was mostly afraid rebate requests would just come back "no such number"!)
