Talking

Well I don't know about the rest of you, but I've spent the last few days pissed off about the whole OmniSky not working with my Visor Deluxe, YadaYada might work, blah blah blah. I even spent a good deal of time expressing my dissatisfaction to every e-mail address I could find on both Handspring and OminSky's websites (including international investor relations :cP ) Of course nobody has responded...

Well today I had more or less stopped being so pissed and decided I'll just figure it out in a few months, and not get it now. It probably won't be with a Handspring product after all this...

So...what comes in the mail today but a Handspring Add-On & Accessories Catalog, from Handspring. Page 14 shows a Graphite Visor (which could be a Solo, let alone a Deluxe, but certainly not a Prism or Platinum) with Novatel Minstrel S in it, an add from Novatel. Page 16 is an add from OmniSky, guess what's in the picture? A graphite Visor (again, could even be a lowly Solo) with an OmniSky branded Minstrel S modem in it and the headline reads "OmniSky delivers the Internet to your Visor handheld".

Well, so now I'm laughing. But I do recommend that all you Visor, Solo and Deluxe users do as I did and let OmniSky and Handspring know that we are pissed that they have a secret agreement to force us all to purchase their new product if we want OmniSky. Here's their e-mail addresses for you to cut & paste:

OmniSky
'[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'

As for the Handspring site, well I just filled out their online form for every possible department. Here's the link: http://www.handspring.com/company/howtocontact.jhtml

Let's at least show them we're pissed.

I'm curious if people from Handspring, OmniSky, etc. have ever responded to a posting here (i'm sure they have lurkers). If not here, is there a forum/newsgroup out there they have a presence on? A lot of companies have their own discussion forums, any idea if HAND is planning something like that? I think a forum presence significantly boosts a company's customer relations rating with the internet generation. Of course, it makes it tougher to avoid hard questions.

Why was this thread moved to the Springboard Modules forum? Is Visorcentral afraid of offending one of their sponsors?

If Handspring is offering to trade your Visor Deluxe for one that will work with the modem, why are you so pissed off?

I called them yesterday, and without any hassles they are shipping me a replacement unit.

I should have it by Monday and I will test it with my Minstrel modem using the YadaYada service.

So will Omni SKy work too?

So, if I get the minstrel from Omnisky, can I get the free upgrade form them too? and will it work with omni sky?

Replacement Units

Handspring's site says Omnisky needs OS3.5 and the Solo/Deluxe units will not work. Looks like YadaYada is the only one that will work. The site also says that a certificate is included with the modem to let you send for an advance replacement unit. Customer service at handspring said the same thing about the certificate.

I believe both Yadda Yadda and Omnisky use AT&T/Verizon as their service providers. Therefore, if you don't have coverage on one, you won't have coverage on the other

I just read Hansprings page on optomized visors. It seems that Handspring will not relplace your visor if you need OS 3.5. They will only replace them if you have an interference problem. "However, our recently announced Visor Prism and Visor Platinum handhelds include Palm OS 3.5 and are compatible." looks like they just want you to buy their new product.
