I'm seriously craving one of these! I don't know if I'll get one or not, but I like the sound of that new better screen! The most important thing however is whether I can use my Stowaway with it or not? Lost the web feed, so I'm not sure if he went over this or not. At the very least I hope they can make some sort of connector, if not then I'm not getting one.

New screen? I didn't see anything on their site about a new screen.
I was really tempted, but I don't like the expansion option. I keep my Innopak 2/V in my Visor at all times and I don't want to get stuck with an Edge plus expansion sled plus module all the time. If they'd added more memory or a vibrating alarm I'd be a lot more interested in the Edge. I also don't like the fact that you have to remove the flip cover to attach the springboard expansion module. It'd be really nice if they could come up with a universal cradle instead of designing a new one for each product. I like having a cradle at work and one at home, but that makes upgrading even more expensive when you have to replace all these accessories every time.
I do think the Edge is really cool and I'd love to own one, but I don't think I'll be buying one anytime soon. I'm going to see what the m500 and m505 look like before making any decisions. The graphite platinum is pretty cool too.
Yes it was mentioned by Jeff Hawkins in the webcast. The Edge sports an improved screen that looks more black and white than the previous models (green).

Taken from the Edge FAQ:
Q: What kind of display does the Visor Edge handheld use?
A: The Visor Edge handheld uses the same bright grayscale LCD display as Visor, Visor Deluxe and Visor Platinum handhelds. Visor Edge is based on Palm OS 3.5 and thus supports 4-bit grayscale (16 shades of gray) and provides sharper, crisper graphics than products using earlier versions of the Palm OS. Visor Edge also uses the same backlight feature as Visor, Visor Deluxe and Visor Platinum.
I guess that there is a conflict with the info. I did not get to watch the webcast, but this seems pretty clear that it is the same screen, and backlight. So, there might be something else that alters the look of it.

Maybe I was just hoping for it to be true so much that I imagined it
. No, he did say that, but now I'm wondering exactly what he meant by it? If that was just some sort of marketing ploy there is no way I'm going to get an Edge!

Reading it a little closer, it does say "backlight feature". A feature is not a technology, just an ability... so perhaps it has a backlight feature, using new technology. I am stretching it a little I think... but that is the fun of guessing about these things before you get the chance to see one for yourself.
I like Handspring, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt, and hope that the actual technology changed.

foo fighter, it seems like you have one of every new handheld that comes out, how rich are you? if they had a color one id trade in my IIIc and get one. but it looks like im gonna end up with an m505
but one problem i just read about on a pdabuzz thread is that maybe the seperate Edge and Springboard technology will scare people away from it because there will be less inclination to make springboard modules and more companies will divert their resouces to the edge
Actually, it looks like the screen is just a little better than the one on the Platinum; there's a bit more contrast between the black and the background. It's a VERY subtle difference, though.
Alas, it's the same wonky backlight as the other Visors and all the recent Palms.
b1lanceman, I don't think this is really going to harm the Springboard standard. You can create a Springboard and sell it to the entire Visor populace, or an Edge connector device and just sell it to the Edge owners. Certainly, there will be some Edge devices, but it's going to make a lot more sense for most developers to stick with the Springboard slot.

I don't see why there won't be a Springboard offered that has the Edge connectors also. Kinda like the backpack thing that the Edge uses, only goes the other way. I am sure it is not hard, and I would think that we would see soon after the Edge Connector devices start coming out.

Edge
The Edge looks nice. However, I purchased a VDX and a VPL this year. I would purchase the Edge only if Handspring allows current VPL owner to exchange theirs for a small fee (<$50.00).

Looks like an EDGE when I get my profit sharing check on the 15th. Still can't decide on color though, at first I thought Blue but the red and silver are growing on me. Alas what to do!!

For the moment, the only way I'm going to get an Edge is if Marcus supplies the VC staff with 'em (hint, hint
).
Actually, it's very appealing to me... everything except the price!
I, too, am going to hold out for the time being to see what comes along (can anyone say Snap and Twist?).

I just bought my VPL two weeks ago........I think I'm gonna go cry now. The Edge is VERY appealing to me, if the price drops I may have to snatch one up. But at $399, I agree that it should be color or have more memory. The flip kinda bugs me too....but the looks make up for sure :-)
