-- Using Hotsync to reinstall info from Vdx to Prism (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8861)
Just a quick question before I do a Hard reset on my VDx. James, on his Prism review states when he hotsynces his Prism for the first time he got all of his OS 3.1 stuff on it resulting in a fatal error. He then said that by using the backup module that he was able to stop this from happening. I have not had this problem yet, but don't want this in the future. I too synced directly from the PC. Can anyone enlighten me on this potential problem and what programs should I look for on my prism that should not be there.
Thanks in advance
Marc

I'm not sure what files James picked up but here are a few things to watch out for:
If your using BackupBuddy then be certain that you do not have the following checked in the main menu of BB; "Backup Unsaved Preferences, Backup Applications and data in Flash Rom, Backup Builtin databases mapped to conduits".
The first two will play havoc with the Handspring OS and the third is simply not necessary as long as you have all conduits enabled.
If your not using BackupBuddy - my guess is that James does - then you shouldn't have any problems.
If it makes you more comfortable - I upgraded to Prism from a Palm Vx running OS 3.3 with Omnisky installed. The only problem I had was Action Names Datebook had B&W icons and caused a reset until I got the color icons loaded. The Omnisky files didn't cause any problems other than obviously woudn't work.
A suggestion though,(if your using BackupBuddy disregard) copy your Palm/SR/Backup file to another location on your desktop. Most of your user data files are stored in this directory. If something doesn't restore during the first hotsync you'll probably be able to recover it from this directory. Be careful though, if you have any programs that have their own conduits such as Highway Manager or Avantgo etc, their backup files are probably located outside of this directory. You might want to locate them and copy them to another directory as well.
If you sync your Visor then install the new software then reboot your desktop (this insures the old settings have been burped from memory) then connect the cradle, turn on your desktop and sync - you should be good to go.
If your using BackupBuddy reboot as well then prior to syncing make certain that the conduit is enabled and you've checked the settings and sit back an watch. It took me about 3 minutes to sync the first time because of all of the data and programs being restored.
The only file that didn't restore completely was DayNotez which I use as a journaling program. It restored but without the registration code intact. Once I reinstalled the registration code all was fine. It had it's own conduit and I didn't catch it but all of my data was intact - just lost the reg code.
Check with James and see which files were corrupted but I'd bet it was some of the ones I mentioned early in this long post.

I have backup buddy installed and did not have checked what you said. I checked all the versions on the prism. they said 3.5. Does that mean I am clear??
You should be clear. Everything working fine?

Yes, Everything seems to work ok.
Mark,
Enjoy, hopefully James will post exactly which files he had problems with on Monday so that all of us can be sure of avoiding(ed) his issues.
