Talking

I got this powersync/charger cable from ezupgrades.com that lets me charge and hotsync my prism without a power adapter. This is great, and it cost me 19.99 plus shipping at ebay,(ezupgrades.com charged $39.99 in their website) lot cheaper than a cradle. Just want to let yu all know about this product. Somehow nobody seem to be bidding on this product at ebay.

PS I do not work for ezugrades.com, just love this product and want to share with you guys/gals.

This product does not sound very effect to me as a charger. It can deliver only a few hungdred miliamps max that it robs from the USB port that is not designed to power devices. The cradle rating is about 2000 milliamps of current, these USB chargers as mentioned are a few hundred.

It's true that as a charger is robs from the USB port but as a travel accessories, it works for me, rather than bringing the whole craddle and adopter with me. At home I still uses the cradle to charge.

Thanks for your input.

USB spec sez:

-root USB ports (the ones on your computer) provide at least 500mA to devices.

-self powered hub ports provide 500mA to each connected device. The are hubs that come with big (usually 2A) power supplies.

-bus powered hub ports provide 100mA to each connected device. These are hubs that don't come with external power supplies, or people just don't plug in the external power supplies.

IIRC, the cradle will provide 1500mA to the Visor and the remainder (~500mA) to a rechargable SB module if present. My guess is that charging with the 4-5 volt, 500mA USB supply (from a root or self-powered hub port) will take longer but still work fine. I wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer for the convenience of not having to lug a wall wart around.

tee10tan, how long does this thing take to charge up a drained Prism/Edge?

gbgood, you can charge your Visor using your cradle and the wall wart power supply without a PC or Mac. That's exactly what I do now when I'm travelling.

I never had the chance to try charging a completely drained unit yet but a 3/4 drained unit took 30 to 45 minutes (approx)

that's pretty fast - sounds like the same speed as with the cradle.

I looked at the product specs on their site. They claim that it doesn't draw more than 200mA. At that current, I don't see how it could chrage very fast. I think I may order one anyway, though.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks pjs,

Prior to your answer, I was looking at www.talestuff.com

They have 2 neat products:
1. an ac/charger and w/ emergency AAA battery charger adapter
2. a car charger, this I might still buy. I love the luxuxy of excess and unlimited access when it comes to my Prism.

*plus, where I be battery-wise while using all of that ram-power when I get my memplug??
that's a joke, I will nevvver get my memplug from Palmgear, but I have the 64mb smc waiting...waiting...

I have to go to Arkansas for 2 weeks for work and this was just the info I needed for my new best friend, Prism.

I have the emergency battery charger. The neat thing which I hadn't discovered is that the connector is removable and will work with the AC cable (when disconnected from the Prism cradle). So...for less than the cost of the Handspring travel charger, you can have a travel charger AND an emergency battery charger!

where to get extra ac adapter?

I like the TCL offering but I don't want to shuttle the AC adapter between my car and the house. I'd like one ac adapter to stay with the cradle connected to my G4 Cube and something smaller to take with me with the TCL emergency charger pack. I'd rather not get a car-specific adapter because I already have an car AC adapter I can plug stuff into.

any suggestions?

Thx

Check out my site at http://www.visorsolutions.com. If you already have a car DC supply, I have an adaptor for $13.50 including shipping to the continental US.

Chargers cheap

Go to ChumpUSA (Hey, they're sponsoring the VisorAdventure) and do a search on Sakar. Sakar International makes a number of products under their iConcepts line -- a 12v car charger, travel AC charger (very small and light), and a USB charging cable. I have the car charger and the AC charger and am happy so far. We're not talking super-duper quality, but just as good as any other similar product. All are $20.

(Not affilliated, just a satisfied customer.)
