You all knew it was bound to come up sooner or later. I am very eager to get a Visor, haven't ordered one yet though. I'll wait untill everyone else has one and make sure they are as good as everyone says they are (I have no doubt they will be...) However, I was looking at the FAQ on Handsprings site and noticed it does not certify this as a Y2K compliant device. Does anyone know for sure if they are? One would suspect that since they are shipping in retail outlets after January they are but you never know.

Definitely a good concern.

Working for a company that has to deal not only with it's own Y2K compliance, but then also must try to provide guarantees on systems and software we had nothing to do with creating or supporting, I understand their reasons for trying to fend off this question by pointing back at 3Com/Palm.

In any case, their terse "Visor is based on the Palm OS and this software does have a Y2K warranty" is not very fair. Also, Palm's 'limited' warranty ( http://palm.3com.com/custsupp/helpn.../year2000.html/ doesn't read well for assuring customers worried about compliance, but in actuality is probably more honest then most, since there is no 'final' way to prove compliance until Jan 1, 2000 is upon us.

I think there are very few high-tech products that have come out in recent days (even the last couple years) aren't Y2K compliant.

I mean, come on, the DragonBall/(EZ) chip was put out by Motorala very recently. Don't you think they would've checked that before now?

We're not dealing with little no-name companies who are just entering the technology race. We're dealing with Motorola and the _founders_ of Palm Computing. Give 'em some credit.

I tested my Palm III about a year ago for y2k. It passed all of the tests. The roll-over and all of the date tests. (I don't have them all infromt of me now as I did then.) I was doing a y2k project and decided to run the protocol on my Palm. It worked fine. I have not thouroughly tested the desktop sofware and ther is of course third party apps to be aware of. Couple that with 3Coms y2k compliance claims, and I have ABSOLUTLY NO CONCERNS. I am satisfied that it will work just fine.
