Question Need Help with Xircom Wireless Module Please!

Hey Everyone-

I need help setting up my Xircom Wireless Springboard Module on my Handspring Visor Edge.

I am getting this error when I try to connect to my wireless network:

Error: Incomplete Setup
Check Phone Number

I know it is not the wireless network itself because I am using it right now on my laptop. I know the visor is working because I have been using it. I know the springboard slot is working because my other modules work.

Does anyone else get this problem? I am trying to setup the module on a completely open wireless network, meaning no encryption, secruirty, login, etc. I should be able to get on my network using the default settings.

At first I thought it was my previous config on my visor edge, so I did a HARD reset. That, however, did not fix the error. I still get the same message.

Any suggestions would be great! Thank you!

Client Settings: All set to default; no SSID specified; Encryption Disabled

Network Settings: Preferences --> New Service Called Xircom SWE. No User Name, No password, Connection: Direct USB/Serial

Everything is basically set to default. When I try going to status, i keep getting the same error.

ANY TIPS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Okay, I changed my SSID to "3" (that's what my wireless router is set at right now)

And I now get this error:

Error: Serial: (0x0302)

Please help! Thanks

the ssid is the name of your wireless network!
enter it exact!

is the channel set correctly?

what kind of router do you use?

is the router set to dynamic ip?

I got it to work!!

The trick was to:

1) Get the update here to firmware v1.13:
http://appsr.intel.com/scripts-df/P...p?ProductID=688

2) Create a new network profile
Enter in a random login
Enter in a random password

3) Click connect and you're all set!

Thanks for the help

Angry

Well I thought I got it to work!!

Now I keep getting errors when I launch internet applications. The STATUS says that I'm connected and I was able to obtain an ip address, BUT none of the apps work!

AOL Instant Messeger: I am connecting... forever! Then it says "Connection Timed Out"

Avantgo (via Web Browser): Does not find server, says Error 5459. I looked on Avantgo's website and I changed the server setting but still no luck!

Can anyone help!!??

Another thing wrong is that I cannot wirelessly hotsync anymore either! something is definitely wrong with my setup, but it can grab an IP address and see the router..

Something is fishy...

Oliver,

Okay here's where everything lies.

I brought the visor wireless module to school and tried it on their wireless network, and surprisingly everything works without a hitch!

So now, i have narrowed down my problem to my wireless router, the SMC Barracade.

Here are my settings as they stand right now:

Client Name: Visor
Profile: 1
Network ID (SSID): [blank]
Encryption: Disabled

IP Address: Dynamic
Establishment Period: Long

Network Type: Infrastructure

Power Mgnt: Enable
Connect at Powerup: Enable

Encryption: Disable

With the above settings, it does work on my campus, however, it does not work at home. At home, my SSID is "3". When I put SSID 3 on the visor it DOES NOT WORK. When trying to establish connection, it will time out and give the "Error: Serial: (0x0302)" error.

When I leave SSID Blank on the visor, It will connect, it will establish an IP address, however, it will not connect when I launch any internet applications.

Am I missing something here? Thanks for the help in advance!

Also, I tried to edit my SSID on my router by leaving it [blank], however, you had to put in a numerical value to save the settings.

Thanks for the help again!

Okay, so now that we got the problem narrowed down to my wireless router, I upgraded the Firmware on it.

Then... the wireless module worked! for a little bit... I was able to get on AIM and surf w/ Blazer, however, once I tried to hotsync it did not connect.

I had to reset the visor, and then when I tried surfing w/ blazer or getting on Aim, it just kept timing out...

seems like we're back to square one.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Lightbulb

There are several things you can do. The best would be to delete all your past settings and start from scratch. From that point, there are step by step instructions in my review of the SWE for my school newspaper.

I had lots of problems at first, unable to connection due to "serial" errors. But then I figured out the problem and got it corrected. The main correction was to turn off PowerSaving. Then it worked perfectly for me.

For the complete review, goto:

http://www.ucsf.edu/synapse/archive....07.19/swe.html

There are also additional reviews of other Springboard modules (like the EM2, Total Recall Voice Recorder, 2001 PDR, and many others). Note that they are written for students by students of UCSF (a graduate level health sciences university).
