-- Springboards under $50 (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8489)
Is it just me, or are other people disappointed with the price of Springboard modules (once they are available!)
I bought my VDx last October anxiously awaiting the voice recorder and digital camera modules. Now that the camera is out, it stinks! The rest of the world is now on 4 megapixel resolution!! I can understand not being on the leading edge, but the current resolution is unacceptable except as a toy. For the same price you can buy a decent digital camera. Where is the synergy to the visor?
The modules were supposed to be add-ons to enhance the functionality of the base Visor. What kind of add-on (with no functionality on it's own) cost MORE than the base?
Well, the back-up module expands the base Visor, only 40 bucks. The 8mb Spring Board wil give you more RAM than anyother Palm device, and the vibrating alarms will give you a silent slert that no other Palm's can do. Although I don't own any of these modules (simply because they do not pertain to how I use my Visor), many people do own them, and consider them as great additions to the functionality of the Base Visor.
BEN
I've got the backup module and think it is great. I also have the 8 meg memory module, I got it for half price when Staples screwed up on their weekly sales flyer. I've been holding out for the SixPak module when it gets released. So far, none of the other modules have jazzed me enough to buy them. I like the idea of the MP3 players, but can't justify the price. I do think someone ought to develop a AM/FM radio module for the Visor. I know the CUE module is out there, but it is just too expensive for a radio. Plus, I live in Europe and wouldn't be able to take advantage of the weather and other broadcast features of it. It would be cool if some game developers would come out with several game modules for it. Playing a game like Ancient Red from Skenext would be nice if it came in a Springboard module. It is a large program and could have even more features if it was incorporated into a module. Several members here have posted their ideas that developers should get away from the Swiss Army knife-type modules and get some inexpensive one function modules produced. There is only so much stuff you can cram into a 2"x2" piece of plastic.

I like the Xircom modem. Got it for $100 with rebate.
