Has anyone received a MemPlug MS module?

With regard to the MemPlug MS module, has anyone received their module yet, or have any new information as to its release?

I have been checking on availability ever since it was
annouced, and the mid-Nov date slid to mid-Dec, but
still no MemPlug MS as far as I can tell.

I sent a message to PIT, and the response was that
I would definitely see availability prior to Christmas.

I just purchased a Sony DSC-S85 digital camera, and
we already own a Sony TRV10 miniDV, so we're heavily
leveraged in MS technology, already. This module
seems perfect for us, since we have two VDx between
us.

Anyone hear any news?

Thanks,
Jerry

Memplug

I ordered one back in November/December with none in sight. Emailing PI Tech I got a response "We will ship the MemPlug MS on Jan 25, 2002" We will see....

Now available from PalmGear?

Based on the VisorCentral story and visiting the newly
updated PIT website, it appears these modules are
now shipping.

Anyone receive one yet and willing to do a review?

Thanks,
Jerry

Memplug MS

I have had mine for about 5 days now and it works well. I have run several things including:

Tome Raider
iSilo
Metro
Weismann City Profiles
Frobnitz

They all seem to work well with the card. I got a 64 meg memory stick and registered PIDirect. I tried the PIVFS Manager which seems to work as well. TomeRaider is definitely faster with PIDirect over the PIVFS.

One note: The Memory Stick will stick out of the unit a little bit which may cause case problems for some.

I also own the MemPlug SM with works equally well. Overall I have been very satisfied with the MemPlug products.

What Visor/OS do you have?

Joe,
If you don't mind my asking, which Visor do you use
with the MemPlug MS, and which version of the OS
does it run? I have a VDx, so I haven't really
paid much attention to which OS the newer
Handsprings run.

Thanks in advance,
Jerry

Visor Type

I have the Visor Platinum OS Ver 3.5H.

Most of the apps I mentioned were very current versions.

Decision time

Joe,
Thanks for the info. I have a VDx (#3, dropped the first two)
running v3.1H2. I don't run anything very exotic except
possibly DateBk4 v4.0e, FireViewer v5.1f4, ListMaker v1.79, PktQuicken v2.0, and WordSmith V2.1.1.

I'm curious how these may run with the MemPlugMS module.
I guess I can't run PiDirect since I'm running v3.1H2 OS.
Do I understand that correctly?

This brings me to the following: should I spend $70 for this
module, or save the money and wait for the Sony handhelds
to come down in price, and then just purchase one of those?

I saw that the Sony N760C plays MP3s. I am seriously
considering getting that one because: color, newer OS,
MS support, MP3 built in. Alternatively, I could get one
of the other models that doesn't have MP3 capability,
and I wouldn't lose anything since I currently don't have
an MP3 module for the VDx. If I spent the money for
an MP3 module for the VDx as well as for this MemPlugMS,
I would be at least halfway to the purchase price on
the Sony, now, nevermind later.

Currently, the only module I use is the backup module.
I have a GeoDiscovery Geode GPS Module, but with
GD's problems, I have opted to use a Garmin GPSMAP 76
for that, anyway.

I have Sony miniDV and MS-format digital cameras, so I
am heavily invested in the MS format. I guess I was
thinking that the $70 could be used as a "down payment"
on a new Sony, and I would be getting much more
than just the MS-access.

Anyone care to comment or point out anything I may
have neglected?

Thanks,
Jerry

Sony

With all of the stuff coming out now about the Springboard I think I would go for the Sony. I have a friend who got one and they are very nice. I relly love my Platinum but if I had the money I's snap up the Sony in a second.

Re: Has anyone received a MemPlug MS module?

It is out for a week now. However, the support is very limited at this moment.
