-- Sidekick hotsynching problems (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2831)
I am very new to the Visor world, and wish to hotsynch my Sidekick 99 (PIM) files to the Visor. I have read thru this bulletin board and other things, and have found nothing very clear. Thanks for the help.

I believe that is the site. You'll need to acquire a 3rd party app called Truesync.
Good luck. I may try this too. I have sidekick but I 've never used it.

I did the download from Truesync, but it is not working. I think that I basicallly do not understand the sequence and interrelationship betw truesync and hotsync. But since you are mrknowitall, maybe you do. thanks

Let's count...
JBC or Handspring = 1st party
Handspring or JBC = 2nd party
??? = 3rd party
Get with the lingo man!!
Oh brother! My point was that both his PIM and conduit are from the same company. As to which party is which, that depends on your point of view. Of course from HS's point of view, TrueSync is a 3rd party software application. From Starfish's point of view, the Visor one of many 3rd party devices that their PIM can sync to. From JBC's point of view; I'll leave that up to JBC. It all depends on what he considers the principal parties.
Now before JBC goes running and screaming out of here, back to his original problem.
JBC, it would help if you could let us know exactly what is happening. TrueSync replaces the standard application conduits within the hotsync manager; it does not replace the hotsync manager itself. The hotsync manager is responsible for managing the hotsync session, setting up I/O, but not actually syncing data. When a hotsync is performed, the hotsync manager calls on the installed conduits to perform the task of synchronizing the data.
Truesync has what it calls 'accessors' that access and sync the data of various devices, applications and services. In your case, at minimum you would need to install the accessors for the Palm device, and for the Sidekick PIM application . You could also install others and it would sync to all of them.
So it would be helpful to know when you initiate a hotsync:
1) Does a hotsync session start?
2) Does it eventually open and start the TrueSync session?
3) Are you getting any error messages?
4) Is any data getting transfered?
Hope this helps.
I also have Sidekick and am trying to figure out how to sync. I just bought my visor today.
First of all I put the visor software on my computer, then I had to save all my sidekick files and delete the sidekick program, reinstall it again and then begin the truesync. I got part way thru and it asked me whether I should use a minimum match for my contacts with only name and phone #, a typical match of name and phone and address, or the maximum match. I didn't know what to do so I emailed visor tech support. Sidekick tech support was very friendly but would not help at all once they found out I had a visor. They said that they would only support the Palm 3 and 5.
Then I came back to try and pull up the palm desktop and couldn't get in???? The message said, "Invalid configuration, terminating the palm desktop"
Anyone out there who can help?
That message usually indicates corruption of one of the Palm Desktop databases. You need to restore them from the backup files until you figure out which is bad. If you've never had a succesful sync yet, then it's probably safe to delete them all.
I've never seen the prompt you're getting from TrueSync ( it may be part of the sidekick accessor) but it sounds like it's asking you how you want to resolve duplicate entries. In other words, do you want it to consider 2 entries with the same Name and Phone to be the same, or do you want it to use more fields to resolve. Personally, I would use the Typical match of Name, Phone and Address.
