I, psnly., don't mind using the other mem. solutions. But I was hoping one of these was avail. soon to help a newbie friend (new to computers, Eng., too -- new to EVERYthing, kind of; his name's "Mork"! j/k) get off the ground quickly.

VC News Item - December 31, 2010

People are still waiting for their Memplug they placed an order for in the Spring of 2001. For the 1000th time, PalmGear.com has pushed back its ship date. This time to January 31st 2011. Meanwhile, VC members are getting very upset at not only PalmGear but the folks at Memplug. They feel that after 10 years of waiting for their order enough is enough.

We contacted the MemPlug people again to find out when VCers can expect their orders. Again, they 500th time they say that a shipment is on the way and should arrive at PalmGear within about a week. They say that the ones being sent will be newly designed Memplug nicknamed MemPLUG X.

Lets all hope that VCers actually get their orders this time around.

****SIDE NOTE****

The MemPLug people are lucky that they have what appears to be a great product. I can't believe that people are waiting this long for their order! What they need is a competing SMC Adapter.

Just received notification, my MemPlug has left UK 5/21 via First Class Post. I ordered Friday (5/18). It's costing me more, but I should have it before the end of May. Most things I've had come from UK have taken about 7 days.

The message I got from Palmgear yesterday (5/21) said they should have the next shippment in the first couple of days this week and mine would ship from this lot. I placed my order the tail-end of last month.

Congrats Mike. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Though I guess since you are actually getting yours now instead of waiting for Palmgear, I don't guess we'll be trading new design for old, huh?

i cancelled my order a long time ago. i sold my sm cards and used the money to buy a handera. built in cf with automover and a mmc slot. if there were a wired network module and i had gotten my memplug, i would never have defected to trg. i understand that pi was probably more of a victim here, but they really should have attempted to make things right. sure, it may not have been their fault, but they have pretty much lost sales to an entire continent. oh well...

Well, who knows! If Widget is more on-the-ball than PalmGear (seems more than just a little likely ) it may be the "flush" design. I was just so ecstatic to be able to get one I didn't ask! The offer still stands if I get what you want.
What bugs me about the "flush design" thingy. Why no mention on the MemPlug site? I'd think they'd trumpet that from the rooftops?!

BTW is it headgamer as in "Leader of the gaming population" or "Person who plays head games"? I knew someone a few years back who was called headgamer for the latter reason.

It is the latter. I am a clinical psychologist (though one with a sense of humor), so I think you can see where it comes from... LOL...

finally shipping?!

Just saw that palmgear authorized my credit card, and is processing my shipment. I ordered back on 4/10, so there's finally some progress. (not much, but some.) Has anyone else gotten notice today?

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned for themselves, but PalmGear emailed me and it was shipped today. I order on 4/17, so I imagine anyone before that date has their ordered filled. Wonder if it will be the new flush design thats been touted about for the past few days. Let us know when people get theirs if it is in fact the flush design. Mine was sent via USPS priority, so it'll be at least the end of the before it could arrive. But I am more relaxed now, what a dissappointed to have to wait so long. Hopefully it will not be in vain.

I just got notice from them that they don't expect the next shippment until the middle of June. They also tell me now that mine did not ship with this latest batch.

That's probably because all the Memplug's they just received went to fill backorders. I am sure they have LOTS more backorders than they do Memplug's. I imagine the Memplug orders continue to grow, and they continue to get shipments of a few at a time. And this is where I believe PI will have to start taking some responsibility. Palmgear can drag their heels about ordering (their fault), and they may get stuck in Customs (nobody's fault), but getting too few is PI's responsibility. I know that Palmgear has been giving TONS of different stories about the problems, but one thing that appears to have remained constant is their claim that they are not getting the number that they actually ordered, hence the backorder list grows. As you can see above - they MUST have gotten some in because SOME people got notification that their copies shipped, yet the ship date changed. Hence they didn't get enough to fill all backorders. Maybe PI isn't pursuing other distributors in the US because they can't keep up with the demand of the ONE supplier they already have.

Just something to think about...

See what I mean? Starting to look to me that PI can't keep up with demand. That's probably no slam against them really because they are a smaller company, didn't expect such a demand for the memplug, and may simply not be able to afford to increase production. Heck, even mighty Sonyt couldn't keep up with demand for the PS2... Bigger demand I know, but also LOTS bigger company with much deepr pockets. Still, PI has to take some responsibility too.

Well, I guess I just consider myself lucky that I got mine a couple fo weeks ago. And folks, you WON'T be disappointed. Like someone has said before on the Memplug mailing list, he has hounded companies to make their software compatible with the Memplug, and Splashphotoe and Noah Dictionary are coming on board, and others are considering it. And Launcher III is in beta now to use the memplug too (I am betatesting it and it is great!). So good things await (or are coming) to those of you patient enough to get your Memplug!

Hang in there - it is a wonderful product! And I am actually jealous in a way - most of you will probably end up getting the new model! (Hope Mike's from Europe is the new model, but I'm not gonna hold my breath on that one just yet!
