-- Syncing Trouble (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13446)
I sync my VDX at work and at home. Recently, I waited too long to change batteries, and had a total data loss. I reloaded from my work machine (which uses a serial port connector) and recovered almost all my data. I had one program, pocket quicken, on my home machine (which uses a USB port), and was anxious to sync on that machine to restore the quicken. But I can no longer sync on my home machine. When I press the sync button, the VDX unit attempts to sync, but there is no response on the PC, no dialogue box, no message, no nothing. Shortly before this incident, my wife got a Platinum and also syncs at home. But we both synced successfully a number of times, prior to my data loss. Any thoughts on why my home machine now no longer seems to recognize my VDX? Thanks, Nick Miller
Did You Try A Soft Reset?
If you haven't already, try a soft reset before you sync. You might also check in Hotsync Manager that it's looking for the correct port.
Is your User ID still showing up on the machine at home?
I have found syncing with 2 PC's fraught with problems myself.
Nick:
From my experience I have had problems syncing from more than one computer. My advice would be to get the Quicken software to the computer that you have been able to sync on and only sync from that computer. Let me know how this works out.
Chris
FWIW I've been syncing with two computers every day for over a year with no problems. I have WinNT/serial at work and Win98/USB at home. I even have Pocket Quicken (which I recommend) at home.
I don't think there is any compelling evidence that your problem is related to the fact that you sync to two pc's. There are many threads on VC that discuss USB hotsyncing problems. I suggest you search for those. But first try a warm reset (reset while holding the up scroll button)of your Visor - this bypasses any startup programs and hacks and stuff - then try syncing.

Dual Syncing - No Problem
Like Jupe, I've been syncing on two computers [Win 2000 & USB @ home, NT4.0 & Serial @ work] since I got my VDX in Nov '99, pretty much without problems.
- Initially I had occasional failures to sync. Could happen on either computer. On the NT box, it was Outlook 2000 related - just unload OL & re-boot. At home, a soft reset cured the problem.
- Since the early days I've reloaded the latest version of Desktop on both computers and have gone for a long time without syncing problems.
- I seriously doubt that using 2 computers is your problem.
The "warm" reset fix solved my sync problems. I did a reset while holding down the up-button on the front. Then it synced just perfectly. I am now back with Quicken and home syncing. Thanks for the helpful responses.
Probable cause
I think the cause of this problem (solved above by Warm reset) relates to the Vdx draining its power too far and then having its batteries changed. It is possible for the Visor to go into a nasty unstable state if the batteries get very low. You change the batteries and proceed to HotSync but wait... there was still power in the Visor and the unit is in an unstable state. Hard Reset after the battery change should solve the problem. The Visor gets a chance to do a full reboot on clean data.
