Red face Edge Stowaway Ramblings and Rumblings

After reading yet another should I return my edge? thread started by K.Cannon (good luck, K!), I realized that thinkoutside still hasn't released a stowaway for it! WTF? It's, ah, absurd! Let this thread be another attempt to put some pressure on them....

I'm betting they've got their hands full, though, what with Sony releasing a new Clie ever other week--with what I count to be three different connectors? (maybe just two...).. plus, you know, they have to make keyboards for those mobile phones....

Think they'll have a stowaway for the Treo?

Have any hope that they'll ever release one for Mr. Edge?

Well, the Magic Eight Ball says "Outlook looks grim".

Why would they do that? Oh that's right, people are actually buying Clies!

Handspring basically sounded the death bell for the Edge when they came out and admitted it was a mistake. While it's admirable that they did that, it basically told the manufacturer's that there was no real market for Edge add-ons. Why create add-ons for a product if there isn't a large market for them?

Personally, I'm waiting for that new 615 (?) Clie to hit the states. That's what the Prism II/Color Edge should have been 3 months ago.

Alt. to the Stowaway.

Ok, so the Stowaway isn't going to happen...I wasn't personally a fan anyway...sorry. But how about the iBiz Keysync keyboard? Anybody try it?

If you have an Edge SERIAL cradle you're all set:

IBIZ Keysync Keyboard

I dunno, seems like a doable alternative to me. Beats building an adapter...although I'd like to use my GoType! with my Edge...so an adapter maybe in my future.

I know why this wasn't done, but they should have just produced an adapter to connect the Edge to existing Visor Stowaway's. That could have been done at minimal expense to themselves and consumers and would have shown a huge amount of good faith on their part.

How many more keyboards could they have sold? Those that had Stowaway's and upgraded to the Edge would have bought the adapter... those that went straight to the Edge would have bought the keyboard and adapter... everyone would have been happy and ThinkOutside would have sold more keyboards.

Handspring must've saw the error of their ways with the Edge by going back to the standard hotsync connector on the Pro and Neo.

Yeah, Well.....

I was going to post this earlier, but saw the post and thought I'd reply.

for holiday purchase. We are sorry to disappoint you. Kind regards,

Not very encouraging, but you'll note that there is a model number.

I'm still not getting my hopes up. Maybe I'll hack an adapter together that will still allow me to connect my Timeport up as a modem at the same time....

Don't waste your time... I tried that with my VDx and it just confused the phone. My StarTAC made some really interesting sounds that day!

The Stowaway gets its power from the TXD line on the connector. That precludes the phone from being able to receive data from the handheld. Also, there's no way for the handheld to know where the data its receiving on RXD is coming from... phone or keyboard.

Now, if we only had a module with a simple serial port to connect our phones to...

Thanks dietrich! But I went yesterday and swapped Edge (thin and sexy as it was) for Prism (fat and colorful). I realized that I needed to do it while I was still used to the size of the VDX and before I got too attached to the Edge's slim self.

My husband, who has never been too interested in my PDA doin's, even likes the Prism's color! (Hmmm...maybe I should've stuck with a monochrome...)

So, to get On Topic: I don't have to worry about the Edge keyboard, as my Stowaway works with the Prism!

this is *majorally* depressing

I've had the Edge since March I think... and except for not having the stowaway keyboard, I've been totally happy with it.

But it totally sounds like Handspring is putting all their efforts in to the two new wireless units... which aren't even *out* yet. But if nothing happens soon... I might SERIOUSLY consider taking advantage of my Best Buy extended warranty and trade up to the Clie' PEG-N610C... it's the best color version that my local store has.

After trading up.... it probably wouldn't cost more that $100 max. Handspring is really dropping the ball in customer service here. I know it's not their fault that the keyboard isn't out for the edge... but couldn't they put pressure on the keyboard folks or *something*? I think we've all agreed that to physically make it for the Edge is very trivial....

I'm just getting really pissed that's all. I really would make good use of the keyboard.

Lets start by saying "I LOVE MY EDGE" It fits my lifestyle it looks pretty like me, It can fit in my pockets without any unsightly bludges.
I really dont need a keyboard as i have said before. I only type 15wpm and graffiti 70wpm i think. so i dont care to much for a keyboard.
I dont need color either butt I WANT COLOR!!!!!

Its sad that sony has Four, i think FOUR color devices. Palm has two and Handspring ONE, yes i said ONE. (not including the non expandible Treo270)

I realy am tired of staring at a blah green screen. I dont want to get the Prism..i wont be able to stand the 6 hour battery use and always looking for an outlet to plug in when i am out. The Clie's are great butt i dont want to loose my creature comforts with HS. that i have

So by the end of the year if HS doesnt make me happy i will sell my springboards and get the OUTDATED M505 or spend all my money for a CLie.

I still love my edge.... i bought it in august and and returned a bad one in septumber...but Its getting way to outdated for my use. I Like the Clie 615 that i hope is comming. Its 16mb color and small as the edge, with somewhat of expansion..plus without that sled piggyback thing.

Hey baby before we start do you mind if we use my M505?
