Looking for Prism Faceplate

Wouldn't ya know it! After using the Best Buy extended warrenty plan about 3-4 times now, they are cracking down on me. I've returned my visor a couple of times for small things like scratched screens, cracks under the faceplate, etc. Now that I REALLY need to use the warranty, they won't let me. My visor got dropped and now has a BIG crack (more like a split) in the faceplate so bad that the left side next to the screen comes away from the body a little bit. So what does Best Buy tell me? They say that they have been told to crack down (no pun intended) on what type of returns they accept and that they couldn't accept my return because it is classified as a defect caused by abuse which isn't covered in their extended warrenty plan.

So, there's my story. What I really need to know is this: Where can I get a Visor Prism Faceplate. GetHighTech.com doesn't carry them, and neither do the places I've looked that carry the aluminum faceplates. Please, someone help me out. I tried glueing it after I got rejected by Best Buy but the superglue just made it worse (actually ate away some of the plastic )

Please help

Burns

sorry to tell you...You cant get them...believe me i tried for over a year...I just broke down and sent the 120 to handspring to send me an all new VP..Mine was a little more smashed up than yours hehehe, but still you cant find parts for them..ANYWHERe

oh and one word of caution....

NEVER USE CRAZY GLUE!!! crazy glue eats away and truns white, good nail glue is what you need.....sticks better, no white residue and does not eat away the plastic

Re: Looking for Prism Faceplate

Try this site:

I saw a glimpse of it over at Visorvillage forums, apparently they make aluminum (according to the poster) casing replacements for the Prism. I think.

Would seem expensive though, but I reckon it'll be worth the aluminum case. I have no other details of it other than this. You should email the company about the details if you're really interested.

Unfortunately, Dave doesn't do PDA faceplates anymore. That's one of the first places I looked.

WinHac17, sounds good to me! Just let me know.

Cool Burns- Try this before chaning faceplates...

I too have the BestBuy 3-year plan and have upgraded or switched casing covers (when I had a Dx) seven times in two years. It used to be easy to be easy to get them to exchange it, but a little more difficult as of late.

Difficult - NOT IMPOSSIBLE!

Before shelling out money for a new case, try multiple BestBuy locations. When I switched from a well-used Plat to my Prism (when the price dropped to $299), I was denied by one Store Manager b/c my Plat's case was a bit scraped up and he stated, "If I tried to return that to Handspring, they'd laugh at me and send it right back." I told him that I was confident that they'd laugh at him regardless of what he did (much to the amusement of the staff that had gathered), but challenged him to call Handspring right then and ask. He wouldn't call them and said he didn't have time for this.

Just for kicks, I called Handspring from home and they volunteered to overnight a replacement Plat - no questions asked.

What I did was checked out a BestBuy in a less desirable part of town, anticipating that they'd have to hire less desirable employees (I am an HR Manager after all). My assumption was correct. Next I made a dry run to the new store during a weekday to find out who was working the Service Desk and PDA Counter. I luckily found a nice old lady at the Service Desk and a young "dude" at the PDA Counter.

When I returned the next day, the Service lady was delightful as I acted like a know-nothing idiot (no comments, please). She said they'll "take back these little computers every time - for anything." She asked me to see the PDA guy and pick out something new.

I suggest that you shop around for old or young "clueless" BestBuy employees to help you!
