Power Button Failure

About a week ago my power button started to not always work. When I would want to turn it off I would need to press it 5, 6, or 7 times to get it to respond. But other times it would work right away, an intermitant thing. So a few days ago I called Handspring and they told me to do a hard reset and not install any 3rd party software. I did and low and behold it came back and did it again yesterday. So this morning I call Handspring and find out that even though I bought the Visor in Janurary it is no longer under warrenty. I bought it from some guy on a board like this and he told me it was new but he could have been bull****ting me. Handspring wants to charge me $85 to fix it! What sort of joke is this. Isn't this how much they charge to replace a screen? I might as well spend some more and buy a better model or a clie.

Unhappy

What model is it? I'm having a similar problem with the power button on my Prism.

My palm pro had this problem once. I cracked it open to find some corrosion on the contacts. I cleaned it off and it worked fine after that.

You could also try this "button board" from GetHighTech. $20.00.

Visor Deluxe. I am almost at the point of just buying a new one. I wish the Neo was rechargeable. Today i put in new batteries and now they are dead.

Since it is already out of warranty, then I would definately take it apart and see what you can do. I had the same problem with my Prism and had BestBuy replace it. I bet if you take it apart you may find that the button has shifted a little. Give it a try. You have nothing to lose. Just make sure you have a good backup.

Also, I find BestBuy to have a great warranty program. It is $60.00 for 3Years and even covers the unit if you drop it. In addition, should you need a replacement, you can even upgrade to another PDA and pay the difference.

Same exact problem with my prism. Fortunatly it was still under its warranty. The guy you bought it from could have claimed that it was new because he just had it replaced (sent back to HS for a new one) and the replacements only have 90 day warranties.

Over the course of the day the screen died. It will turn on but nothing happens on the screen. I opened it up but didn't see anything wrong to my eyes. So I was a sucker and bought a Smoke Neo.
