Wow, my jaw is on the ground.

I guess they decided to put the info up a few hours early.

Nice work finding this Albert!!

P.S. - anyone want to buy a slightly used GVDx? I have to have a Platinum!!

Oh my

While that Prism is NICE -- I mean WOW nice -- the price tag is a little much for me. And rechargable batteries make me nervous - mine always seem to develop "memories."

Now, that Platinum is my type of unit. I always wanted metallic (so I got the Ice VDx), and the speed element is nothing to sneeze at.

Great moves, Handspring! Thanks for the notice, gang!

Well, I've ordered my Visor Prism! Thanks for posting the info on Handspring's site so quickly James. Can't wait to receive it.

Now I'll need to sell my two-week old Visor Deluxe (which was a replacement) but that shouldn't be too hard.

I just purchased my prism also! Can't wait. When will they start delivering?

Unhappy

Very NICE machines, but I think I'll have to stick with my new Visor Deluxe, which I bought in September to replace my very dead Sharp Zaurus.

The Prism is expensive for a Palm device (actually it costs about the same as what I paid for my Zaurus), and from my experience with the battery-hungry Zaurus, the battery life worries me - can't exactly charge it on the plane when I'm on a long haul flight.

The Platinum? If the photos are anything to go by, I'm sure I would hate the colour scheme! Not to mention you don't get colour co-ordinated accessories like the Prism does - you get black snap on cover and cradle, whereas the Prism gets just a leather slip case, but a body coloured cradle.

What I would swap with my Deluxe would be the newer OS and the faster CPU.... if only I could upgrade/return my Deluxe (but I can't)!!

Sounds nice but I have a few questions that may have to wait until someone gets one.
Handspring says the old cradle will not work, I assume due to the thicker unit, but I dont want to buy another cradle for work. Maybe it could be modified?
Handspring also says the Eyemodule needs a patch to make it work. Do they mean make it display color? I could not find any info on Eyemodule.com about this.

keyboard

I read the FAQ on the Prism. I saw modules mentioned, but I didn't see anything about keyboards... Has anyone heard if the current Visor keyboards can be used with the new models???

Unhappy I'm So Sad...

... that I had my summer holiday this year and not next so I could see my email in color.

Had the same problem with a Mac purchase back in '95. Had I just waited three weeks, I could've had a second-generation powerPC chip system, instead of the clunky 6100/66.

Lucked out with my PC notebook. Was one of the very first using a 14" display. Lots of people staring two years ago.

I got a chance to use the Prism recently. The old cradle will not work, because the Prism is somewhat curved in the back.

The version of eyemodule I used showed pictures in BW modeduting the "capturing process" - however we then launched a 3rd party app and viewed the photos in 16 bit.

Red face Keyboard and Prism?

OK, my credit card is burning my hand right now, but I need to know, will my Stowaway keyboard work with the Prism?
If the old cradle doesn't work just because of the curve shape and not the connector then I guess it's fine. But what if the connector is actually incompatible?!?
It's one thing to spend the extra money on the device, but through away the keyboard expense that is just too much money.

Posted by Petro on 10-16-2000 06:55 AM:

Nope! Stowaway will work with the Platinum, but the Prism has a different shape, and uses a different cradle to sync. To me that says different connections to the visor = incompatibility with the keyboard. I'm just glad the platinum still works with it!

Now I'm just waiting for my echo gift certificates to finish comming in (the 6 I have so far should be all in by december 1st) so I can get a platinum for only $191!! That's 10 cents more than my Visor was with shipping!

Actually looks James is still a little bit slow posting the big news. Albert posted the news at 9:37 and James put it on the VC home page at 10:18. Members doing all the work again.

Marcus, what '3rd party app' allowed you to view the eyemodule photos in 16 bit color?

I don't remember, could have been the "Handspring Photo Album"

Not necessarily; The Prism definitely needs its own cradle to accomodate two things: The form factor (thicker) and the rechargeable battery. Since the Stowaway connector doesn't fit flush with the back like a cradle, I'm hoping there's still a chance for compatability with the Stowaway. I've e-mailed Handspring and ThinkOutside asking about this, and hopefully I'll either hear from them soon or somebody else will post a definitive yea or nay..

I'm keen on the Prism, even though it is on the pricey side, but I don't know if I'm keen enough to tack on another $100 for another Stowaway. (I probably wouldn't be selling my first one, as my fiance would be inheriting my VDx & accessories ) :::sigh::: I guess the next few days will tell. I wish I worked for a company that appreciated its employees enough to give them holiday bonuses.

I thought the platinum was actually going to be an aluminum case, but I'm not sure it is. Here's a quote from the web page: "The Visor Platinum has a shiny new silver metallic color so it looks as fast as it works." Metallic color and metallic case are not necessarily the same thing.

It is a plastic case painted with silver color... it looks ok, but not as great as a real aluminum case would.
