-- Is buying off of the boards safe? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11388)
I've been looking at buying a VDX off the boards, but one of my friends told me this is a bad idea due to safety concerns. I see transactions taking place every day. Has anybody been scammed? Do you really get what you are sold? What's payment method did you use? Answers to these questions and any others you might feel like volunteering would be greatly appriciated.
Thank you in advance,
Mark

There's always an inherent risk in buying anything online. That said, I personally have never been victimized or even had any problems with item quality, delivery etc. I use Paypal for online transactions; you can use a escrow service like I-Escrow if you're nervous about being ripped off.

As far as VC goes I wouldn't be worried about buying anything for the most part. Especially if you're buying something from someone with a strong presence as opposed to someone who is posting their first post. You can always post that you got ripped off which will destroy any credibility here. Unfortunately you've already been ripped off. As an aside how does PayPal work? How much does it cost? How would one sign up?

I think you're pretty safe on VC.
Just don't buy anything from dick-richardson, it might be his mother or one of his "much" younger sisters posting under his name
. j/j
Seriously though, I've bought stuff over BB's without any problems. I think VC is a more friendly place than the BB I bought a Hard Drive from a while back. I sent the guy a money order and he sent me the drive. Maybe I'm a bit too trusting, but it all worked out fine.
E-mail the person and make sure they know what they are talking about (why they're selling the item and any other specific info you want). Once you are satisfied then you can continue with the transaction.

Thanks lennonhead. You ruined a sale. I'm shipping you my gotype and I better get a pretty penny for it.

I've bought stuff from Apple, Dragon.CA, Microsoft, and a few others I can't remember. Never had any problems, as there was an SSL (Secure Socket Layer) form to enter info on.

How in the blazes did you remember that? I'm impressed. Can you e-mail a couple of days before my anniversary so I don't forget?
. It's the relatively useless info that seems to stick.__________________
