-- eMap / eTrex with Visor (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=9858)
Anyone ever connected an eMap to the visor? How about an eTrex? My understanding is that they use the same PC cable. I have tried to connect my eMap to my Visor using the following connection:
Visor --> Serial Cradle --> Nullmodem -->gender changer --> PC Cord --> eMap.
I even tried taking out the nullmodem, but that didn't work either. Am I missing something?
I tried this connection with both Quo Vadis (demo version) and Mapshot (c/o RandMcnally Streetfinder). Nada
Any help would be appreciated. I want to confirm this will work at all before I shell out $40 on a cable that doesn't work.
The problem most likely comes from not having a power source for the serial cradle. It contains a circuit to convert the Visor's TTL signals into RS232 and normally draws its power from the PC. When used to connect to a peripheral, that device needs to supply the necessary power. I'd guess that the eMap and eTrex do not, therefore something like the modem cable from Mark/Space would be needed (it draws its power from the Visor). Check out this thread and also these eTrex search results.
