For some reason, when trying to use graffiti, the shift command and dot(symbol)command will not "hold" in place when I give them. I can see the shift arrow and the dot symbol appear briefly in the lower right hand corner, but then disappear. I've recently started using a Stowaway keyboard for longer notes. Would the associated software have anything to do with this? This problem only started this morning. No new software has been installed for several days.

I've had the same problem with my Stowaway. I've found that it appears to only happen if I turn my visor off BEFORE removing it from the keyboard. A soft reset fixes things.

When using my Stowaway, I make sure my visor if OFF when I insert it into the keyboard (the keyboard will then recognize it when the visor is turned on--if not, turn it off and on again). I then remove it from the keyboard while still turned ON.

I also believe updating to the latest keyboard software helped.
