Bblue's Law of AutoCars.

I would call it "Murphy's Law" except this is my philosophy.

"Whenever someone buys a new car that they find perfect in every way, someone driving a beater will total it within the first month of ownership."

As did just recently happen when my brand new loaded Intrigue was sideswiped by a mid-80's Corolla that ran a red light.

The same thing happened to my friend's Altima, sideswiped by a Hyundai Excel back a year ago after it ALSO ran a red light, 3 weeks after purchasing the car.

Is it me, or does this happen to enough people for it to become a theory?

No it just happens to people with bad karma..j/k

Anyway that shouldn't be too bad as long as you have insurance on your car, and if you were hurt at all you could get some money for that.

Our 2001 Forrester (which we've had for 5 months) just had it's rear panel dented in last night when a crappy pick up truck backed up into it.

A friend had a new 2000 Forrester. Totalled it the first month when a delivery van rear ended it.

I nearly totaled my '98 forester (on the left) when I ran into an old Ford...
It has been in the smash repair shop for allmost 3 months now, since all the parts have to be imported from Japan...
I had a couple of good months before I had the accident...

Right now I drive a old big all dented up (hail and accident damage) replacement car (a Ford Falcon, aussie model ford)
So if bblue's law is true I should hit somebody's new porsche soon

We JUST bought yesterday and all new, 2001 Town and Country LXi 2U. THAT THING IS AWESOME! It's silver - It's our first NEW car - it's a COOL minivan - powered doors - I LOVE IT!

I really do not like MiniVans, but my Mom drives a 2000 Town & Country. I will say this, when it comes to MiniVans, that thing rocks. Drives great, plush, comfortable and plenty of room. The only thing it does not have is the power side doors. They did not have them until the 01's came out. I just cannot get past the fact that it is a MiniVan.

My parents offered me the van but I declined and bought my fly honeywagon (A Chevy Nova). Come to think of it, I have 5 friends with green minivans... I can start a green mini van posse. Like that movie, about the rebel who didnt have a cause... you know, Pokemon.

Nothing happened to my car (when it was new) for the first 18 months or so. It birthday is in June and the second winter was so cold that the casing over one of the side mirrors chipped when tapped accidentally.
the following summer someone hit it in a parking lot (and fessed, thankfully) and a couple years later I had an altercation with a deer on a dark country road.
So I'm either luckier with cars than most of y'all or an exception to the law.

When I got my car one of the first days I was driving to school someone stole the valve caps off my tires and smeared a blueberry muffin all over the roof, as my friends would put it I "got muffed".

Knock on Wood

In my 30 years of driving and at least 10 new cars (many are company leases) my very first car which was 10 years old at the time got totalled. However, it was parked in a field and got run over by an illegal alien driving a company truck at about 90 miles an hour down this dirt road. The car was 20 feet from the road and this other employee was drunk as well. When your 17 and your first car gets totalled well it's really a drag.

I've had no vehicle receive damage while I was driving it. One company car received damage when another employee was driving it but the lease was just about up and it wasn't his fault.

Another vehicle had all four tires sliced and brake fluid poured on just about every quarter panel. This was the result of former employees that took it out on my car because they became former employees as a result of them stealing and doing drugs.

So 2 new cars receiving damage both without my driving indicates to me that the problem might be the driver. I've driven well over 700,000 miles in the last 20 years due to my sales position and as mentioned - never bent the sheet metal while driving (knock on wood).

I think that Karma has to play into it as well as location. I dread driving in snow as some of you must have just because when you do have to go out in it the conditions are treacherous.

Here in Modesto, we only have to worry about Congressmen and not drastic driving conditions such as snow, sleet, or such. We do get fog in the winter that should cause people to slow below 25 but when they don't there are 40 to 50 car pile ups on the freeways.

Yeah! some of those other drivers have guns too! However, the more dangerous ones are the ones with cell phones, putting on make up, reading a book or the newspaper, stereo at 101db, and eating. This I have seen. Drive defensively, because they are out there.

I've done dashboard dining, but only when I'm desperate for sustenance, am going to be on the hiway (lesser need for maneuvering) and conditions aren't bad. I stay over in the slow lane and keep my speed down, and only get one-handed food.
Not proud of it, but one does what one must.
What I really didn't like was when the only way I could have music in the car was to have one ear covered by a headphone earpiece. (That's been fixed.)

I too have done the same thing. However, I don't believe that based upon all of our postings here that either you or I was truly multi-tasking as I noted in my post such as cell phone, make-up, 101db and so on. Certain amounts of distraction, I believe, actually are good while driving so that we don't get bored and sleepy.

I have seen near accidents and accidents caused by true multi-tasking by the driver. The one that always gets me is the guy that is carrying on a conversation with a passenger and is spending more time emphasizing their point and staring at the passenger awaiting a response and not looking at the road.

I learned a few years ago to watch out for the other guy, cuz he definitely ain't watching out for you.

Bob and Tom said it the best last week on their radio show: "I'm driving and whatever reason I'm in a hurry and cutting you off is definitely more important then your reason for being in a hurry and cutting me off" [sic]
