I had a similar problem. FIrst, you can turn off the "IR waiting" window on the VDx by going to Preference icon, then General and turning off the "Beam Receive". This also saves on battery power.
I also had to set up my IR port as com 4 in the Hot SYnc manager. (I found out that my IR port was com 4 by going to Control Panels, Infrared and selcting the Options tab. There is a statement about providing application support on com4 and lpt3). Select "setup" in the Hot Sync Manager and go to "local" and select your serial port as 4 (or whatever your Infrared Control Panel told you).
Hope this helps.
Duhhh,,,
O.k...I'm confused...where is everyone getting irlink 1.5??? I've been to the iso website and only found 1.2. I installed 1.2, but all i get is the message "waiting for sender".
Thanks for your help
Anyone have any success using IrLink with a Mac? The IS/Complete website indicates I need to install a program called Extras for my MacPac, but it's an 18mb-25mb download!!! What does this program do and why is it so big?
Also, anyone know if the beta's still available or if they're ready to release the finished program? The website shows a target release of 12/5, but that date's long gone.
Hello,
Its me again. I am finally able to Hotsync with my Visor and Laptop. My computer put my IR Com Port on Com5. Hotsync manager 3.02 did not support COM Ports greater than 4.
I downloaded the Palm OS 3.3 upgrade which included a new version of Hotsync (3.04). Note that I ONLY installed the Hotsync software and didn't attempt to install the OS upgrade since Visor's don't support Flash Upgrades.
After installing Hotsync 3.04 I was able to select Com5 as my Serial port. The problem now is that I can't Sync via my USB Cradle! Arrrghh!! I press the sync button but nothing happens on the computer end. When I click on the Hotsync button on the desktop, Local, Modem, and Network are available to select. I currently only have Local selected. Help me out here, was a USB option available with the old version of the software?
How do I sync via USB again? Mahalo!
Jsheremeta:
Check your hot sync manager and change the local setup back to the com port that matches your cradle. When I IR to my laptop, I use com 4, but when I use my serial cradle, I use com 1, otherwise it doesn't work. Try this and let me know because I can't be sure it's the same as your case because I don't have USB capability.

you get IrLink beta 1.5 by sending an email to [email protected]

GldnBearz,
Thats the problem. USB doesn't work off a COM Port, although IR does. My Laptop is using COM5 as a virtual IR com port. This would be fine if Hostsync 3.02 supported it.
I DID get IRlink running under Hotsync 3.04 because it allowed me to select COM5. The problem now is that I have lost USB syncing.
I think the solution to this problem is going to be figuring how to FORCE my virtual IR port to COM4 vs. COM5. Once I figure that out then I can re-install the Hotsync software that came with the Visor and select COM4.
What a mess. Has anyone else had these problems?
Yay! What a great way to bring in Christmas!
I FINALLY got IRlink to work with my Visor WHILE still being able to Sync via USB.
Since I couldn't figure out how to change my IR Com Port to anything other than COM5, I downloaded the new Hotsync 3.04 (It came with the Palm os 3.3 upgrade that I can't use).. Hostsync 3.04 recognized COM5 so I was able to sync via IR just fine. The one drawback is that I lost USB syncing. It was no longer listed in Hotsync.
After posting my whine here, I received a reply from someone who told me to go into regedit and search for "directcomport" and change the value to COM5.
I removed Hotsync 3.04 by installing the version of Hosync that came with the Visor CD. After installation, I changed the Value for "directcomport" from COM1 to COM5.
GUESS WHAT?! I can now sync via IR AND USB! Mele Kalikimaka!!! I am one happy camper. Its too bad that it had to be that difficult, but I'll tell ya what. I learned more about IR in the past two weeks than I have in my entire life!
You all have a great Christmas! VisorCentral Rocks my world, baby!! Over and out...
Does anyone know when the final verison will be released? I've become dependant on IrLink and hate that I have to start lugging my cradle around again since the Beta is now expired.
I just received IRLink 1.5 Release Candidate 1 from ISComplete. John Huang emailed it to me. It will expire 1/16/2000 so I assume the final release will be available by then.
Did you get it Automatically or did you have to request a new extended trial version?
I emailed using the address listed ealier in this thread to request IRLink 1.5. I didn't know what version I would be getting. It looks like the product should be going GOLD very soon. I think all they are doing now is completing the documentation and QA.
I've been using the IRLink beta for over a month now, it's my only means of syncing at work. I've had no luck having iscomplete send me the new version and mine has expired today. Could someone please forward me the new release? If I can't sync on Monday I'm in real trouble!
Thanks,
[email protected]
I'm in the same situation, I'm gonna need to be able to synch with my laptop as soon as I get back to work.
Has anyone got a beta that hasn't expired yet ?
or does anyone know when IS/Complete are going to release the finished product ?
It's a very good product it's amazing that I've come to depend on it so quickly.
Thanks,

Like many of you, I've become dependent on IrLink. But since the beta version has expired, I pulled out the serial cradle to do a synch. Guess what? No synch. It tries for about a minute then gives me the gibberish about unable to connect and to check my setup. Any IrLink users out there who can't get their Visor to synch in the cradle, serial of USB?
I just tried IBM's WorkpadSync on my Visor Deluxe along with IBM's IRDA/Infrared drivers for my NT4.0 Thinkpad.
It worked, flawlessly, the first time...
I got it at palmcentral, just search on "workpad" or use the URL below!
http://www.palmcentral.com/product....5&catalog=1
Did it work the rest of the time also?
I'm curious because it so happens that I'm looking at IR synching with a Thinkpad. I checked out the link provided to IBM, and it specifically states "these drivers are only supported using infrared between an IBM WorkPad and IBM infrared equipped ThinkPad or Desktop system." I'm justifiably concerned about the risks of having to hard reset, despite knowing that the Workpad is really a PalmPilot in disguise.

My Irlink beta version has expired too, and the full version isnt't out yet! Can anyone with a working beta send it to me? Please help!

I've found IS/complete to be very responsive (perhaps because I placed an order for the final version?). An hour after I placed the order, and made an incidental comment on the the on-line order form (I have a visor and need IR sync now!) I had an e-mail with the extended beta enclosed. HS could learn something here about customer service.
While IR snyc has worked with my MAC, it was more of a problem with my bloody PC laptop. First, I turned Beam off (in Prefs). I attempted to change the directcomport value to com5 as suggested above, but the value simply reset after closing regedit. However, going to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/INFRARED/VirtualPorts
I was able to change VirtualComPortName from Com5 to Com4. After reboot, it shows in the IR Options tab. From there, I selected com4 in Hotsync Manager Setup, Local Tab. And the most important step: selecting Serial in the HotSync menu (so that both Serial & USB are selected). Once done, flawlessly synced via IrDA 1.0. And a quick switch in the com setting in HotSync Manager gave me USB syncing.
One additional Feature of 1.5 is the ability to remote & delayed sync: It has a timer feature to allow you to IR or Cradle sync automatically (so you could leave it in the cradle at night, and have it autosync at 5:00am).
Thanks for the help!!

Workpad Sync is still working fine. Many, many syncs...
The only downside that I've found to IR syncing in general is that if I move my Visor in front of my laptop, a message pops up that tells me that it is "Waiting for sender."
I don't need beam receive on all the time, so no big deal for me... Or, if it turns out that I do need to enable it, I can enable only the rear IR port on the laptop.
