-- Problems beaming from VDX or Visor to VPL (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=15579)

Question

My wife has (my) original Visor and I have a Deluxe. A co-worker of hers has a VPL. I had a non-locked app that I beamed to the Visor, and she then tried to beam it to the VPL. The VPL timed out and didn't get the app. I then tried beaming the original app from my VDX to the VPL, and got the same result.

The VPL is running OS 3.5H (don't know about patch level); my VDX and her Visor are both 3.1H3. His hacks were disabled, and we tried beaming using both BeamBox as well as the built-in Beam function. Tried fresh batteries too; VPL's beam receive was on. The Visor and VDX have no problem beaming things to each other. The VPL owner was able to HotSync the app into the VPL later.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any comments/suggestions are appreciated.

How close were your Visors? I had a similar problem when I was trying to beam between my old VDX and my new VPL. (Love my new Platinum!) Anyway, I read somewhere that Prisms like to have some distance when beaming, so I had put them farther apart, and that seemed to work better.

Hope this helps!

Angry Problems beaming to VPL

Anyone else with beaming to VPL problems?

I bought mine at officemax and soon enough found out that it wouldn't correctly receive beams from my girlfriend's palm M100 or my friend's Visor Deluxe. Sometimes the item would transmit with the M100, but only when the M100's auto turn-off timer activated. Very strange. I returned that VPL for a replacement (which turned out to be a refurbished model - even had a password on the prefs and I had to hard reset - a somewhat rude move on officemax/handspring). So far the replacement works receiving beams from a Visor Deluxe and a Visor Edge, but not with the M100. The same Deluxe and Edge both can receive from the M100 just fine. Gah. Looks like it's back to officemax. Does this make any sense?

Sincerely,

Jesse Mortenson

I have problems with larger files. I cna been an address to a friend of mine with a IIIxe, but not programs. It starts the beam, then disconnects after 5 or so seconds.

Smile Update to "beaming to VPL problems"

Here's an update on the beaming from an M100 to my VPL problem: it looks like I have a fix. I tried a longer beaming distance (2-3 feet) and it worked! I didn't have time for extensive testing, but it's good enough where I don't feel like I need another replacement.

Thanks,
Jesse Mortenson

I have a Visor Platinum. In the past month, I swapped apps with a Palm IIIe, Palm IIIx, Palm Vx, and Visor, Visor Deluxe, and Visor Edge. All with no problems.

Usually the problem is not what type of Palm/Visor you're beaming with but it's the specific unit that has problems. Or it could be just a one time thing.

I once gave Diddlebug to a friend who had the Palm Vx and it crashed his system. He was forced to Hard Reset to get his Palm working again. He then downloaded the Diddlebug and everything was fine. More recently, I tried to beam data to a Visor Edge and the Edge had a hard time detecting the beam. We were less than a foot apart.

Beaming Distance

The Platinum for whatever reason likes at least a foot of distance from the other PDA. Between two platinums I use about 18 inches to get a good beam session. Closer and they 'lose connection'.

Talking Thanks

These forums are the best. I was searching for a solution to my beaming problem and I found this thread. The problem was fixed by moving them at least a foot apart. Thank you all for your great suggestions !
