Prism Resolution?
With the price break just anounced, it's probably time to move from my Visor Deluxe I've had since they first came out.
- BUT - I've been all over the Handspring site and can't find the screen resolution listed. They mention 65k colors - but no more details.
- I'm trying to compare it visually (mentally) with the iPaq which I've used on a test basis for several months.
- Can anyone help with the res - please?

Same Res. as your Deluxe. 160x160
I really want to add though, that even though it's only 160^2 res, you look at a phto, and because the colros are so great, to me it's unbeliveable it can only be a harsh 160x160. Text is ugly, but other things can get REALLY REALLY cool. I would wait though. You know's what's happnieng this week at Pcexpo...

It is true that the Prism is also 160x160, but like Miradu says, the 16-bit color really makes a difference. I will never own a monochrome handheld again after using it.

But like the Clie users have posted, a 320x320 image at 8bit color will look better than a 160x160 picture at 16bit color. Not to mention it really helps with the main purpose of a PDA, looking at data in the form of text.

Prism Resolution
Ok so the Clie has 320x320 resolution that is supposedly a lot hotter then than prisms 160x160. What good is better resolution if no one is really putting out any software that is taking advantage of that ability. From what I have researched on the Clie the only software that takes full advantage of that feature is some of the bundled software that already comes with the clie. with most of the software right now being targeted towards Palm and Handspring users is the 320x320 resolution really worth the high dollar tag on the Clie?
There are a number of apps that are starting to trickle out that support the Sony hi-res mode.
I am using a cool tabbed launcher that runns in hi-res mode. you get five large icons per row with lots of space in between so the text doesn't get clipped. It is called Crs-Launcher.
Solutions in Hand just announced that the latest version of MiniCalc, their spreadsheet, now supports the jog wheel and hi-res mode. Jog wheel navigation and more data on screen. This is an ideal app for 320x320.
I've seen a number of others that don't especially interest me. So far most of them are from Japan since they got a couple of manths head start because of the N700C.
On a separate front. The argument of 160x160x64k colors vs 320x320x256 colors is now obsolete. With the new Sony PDAs that were announced today. A poster on Palm InfoCenter claims to have talked with someone at Sony and was told that they are currently testing the OS4 with 16 bit color upgrade for the N710C.
320x320x64K colors wins by a landslide.
agreed, now they just need to work on screen brightness and adding a springboard

An OS4 update will be released for the 710 which will enable 16-bit color. I guess Sony sorta rushed the 710 out to compete with the announcements of the Edge and the m50x.
