Hmmm. I was ready to whip out my credit card until I got the end of the article. Too bad it's GSM!

I'm sure it'll be big among hot-shot rappers and "ballers."

P.S. I feel at home with geeks like you.
Nokia has to find a way to pay those fines:

free subscription.
Anyhow: "Nokia executive, Anssa Vanjoki, was fined a staggering $100,000 for a relatively minor speeding offense on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle."
ouch.

Happy Treo 600 user, so far. Thanx Cingular for having an unlocked phone.
My Treo 600 is my phone, my PDA, my watch, and my MP3 player. Oh yeah, I take a picture once in a while with it. Convergence is such a great thing.
What is this world coming to?
There are people in this world who are ready to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a cell phone when thousands of people around the world are dying from hunger and curable diseases...This is rotten.

True, and the first place to look is in the mirror. I just spent $400 on a PDA/cell phone, which is over half of the yearly income of half the people in the world. Something to think about the next time you buy a handheld.
We're all part of the same hypocrisy.

Miss the point
Gameboy70..
I think you missed my point. There is no need for anyone to spend tens of thousands of dollars when they can spend a few hundred on a phone that does exactly the same thing. This is pure extravagance. I am sure that your Kyocera and my $400 Prism is a useful tool that keep up organized etc... I would not call it an extravagance.

But someone else would. Hasn't everyone on VC, at some point, been asked by someone why anyone needs a $400 organizer? It's a purchase that I have the luxury of being able to make, and I don't take that luxury for granted. More importantly, it takes less effort to point to someone else's extravagances than to locate our own, however relative. But your point stands: $40,000 is more wasteful than $400.
At any rate, I'd be willing to bet that anyone obsenely rich enough to afford the Nokia probably committed greater sins in acquiring his fortune in the first place than he would in wasting some of that fortune on the phone.

The Point
Toby.
My whole point is that it is obscene to spend "walking aorund" money on a phone ($22,000+) when they can get a phone that does the same thing for 1% of that. The funny thind is that a lot of these oil sheiks have people in their own kingdoms that have never even seen a cell phone much less to be able to afford one that cost $22.

Re: The Point
quote:I understand that that's what you meant. Unfortunately, obscene, being a value judgment, is a relative term, and though you might not consider $400 for a PDA obscene, I'm sure that those same people who had never seen a cell phone might consider _it_ obscene as well (since they might never make that much in a year or more).
