General Chat

With a subject like that I figure the topic might actually stay here . I don't have anything to say, but I thought it funny how the majority of the threads posted here were moved. So who has something general to contribute to my thread?

(Sorry if some other wise @ss has already posted something similar, I've been away for a while.)

Technically, you're treading on Off-Topic territory here...

As for the threads that have been moved, we do that when we feel one is more specific to one of the other topic areas. Just an effort to keep similar information together and ensure VisorCentral remains the best...

Balance People, Balance

I think VisorCentral either needs to loosen the general topic standards, remove the reference to originating string (with auto-reply's to the posters, or find a way to maintain the number of views and responses to a moved string. I'd follow more moved strings if I knew how vibrant the discussions were that they referred to.

A few moved topics I don't mind, but when it is the majority of the postings, I think it is an organizational problem.

The criteria for General is when it doesn't have any other specific place to be. All of the moved threads tend to be fairly specific in nature.

remove the reference to originating string

That option is available. However, in the past, I've moved threads without leaving the pointer behind only to have them reposted in the wrong forum.

They are maintained in the forum that the thread is moved to.

Can you maintain them from the "moved" location too, or does that defeat the purpose? I'll be honest; the General Chat is the first forum I visit, and I rarely bother to follow strings that have been moved. Maybe others are different.

What about an option to remove the moved thread marker after X days? Cuz by then most people should know where the stuff goes. Some people's mentality could be: More people visit Gen. Chat so if I post in there then I could get more attention for my topic and let the admin. move it to the right place. Another idea is to make it send a PM to the person when their thread is moved so they don't repost?

Ok... (throwing my hands up in surrender ), I'm just a moderator. Any of that fancy programming stuff would need to be addressed by marcus. I suppose I could start moving without leaving the pointers and see how it goes...

Hey Mark, isn't this more about VisorCentral.com than anything else?

Seems more like it has to do with the thread originator, who picks where to start the thread ... I mean, if a moderator later looks at a thread and says, well, this is really about VisorAdventure or Other Handhelds, then moves it, then they're maintaining organization, not causing a problem.
There's almost 10,000 registered users here, that's a lot of potential for inappropriate starting places.

I just want to let the good folks at VC know that this is about the best organized BB I've viewed.
