HandCam

I think I know what I want for Christmas now

I really think that this is definitely the future of the springboard. Modules that work both in the Visor for additional functionality and outside the Visor.

But this camera looks really cool but is it just me or does the user interface look a lot like that used by the Eyemodule2 (and 1 I presume).

Is this thing on the website yet? Didn't the guy say it was $99, viewing the interview on dial-up, I lose interest really fast

I have no idea of most of the things he said. I had to turn the sound down really low because I am in school right now in Visual Basic class. I got done with all my work last week and I am right now waiting for others to finish.

I did SEE what it was about and some of the things he said. A camera for the visor with 2 MB of flash memory for pictures plus when you link to a USB port it works as a webcam and or a standalone camera.

Glee!!!

This thing did look pretty sweet. and the functionality outside the visor! ultra cool.

No mention in the interview about what kind of image resolution or quality it was capable of though.

The only downside that I saw was that outside the visor, there was no way to access the contents of the Flash memory. Images stored in the camera's flash can only be accessed by downloading through a hotsync conduit.

Oh, one more thing...why does it only have 2 MB? I'd have thought 8 would make it more useful.

VC, we want to see a review of it by the time you guys get back from Comdex!

Don't know how to make a link, but it's a vidoe from Comdex on the front page of the VC site, it's a Targus camera

Oh...

ok, I'll take a look at it.

I am definitly considering it . It seems awsome and probably worth the $$$ if you don't already have an EM2. The price is right. I just need to find out the resolution. Also I hope the new WordSmith is a free upgrade .

Is there a link for this thing yet? If it works as a Netcam as well, I want to pre-order

Except for this sight I've seen nothing on the HandCam. I did a search on Google, Targus, and Amazon.

The article states VGA resolution... that would be 640x480.

I had dinner with a Targus rep.. (amoug others)... I didn't get to see the cam at Mobile Focus, but I got some specs. The camera AFAIK only takies pictures at VGA - their is no low res setting. It wil take color motion videos, and pictures can be wtored on the 2 mb flash or the visors memory. As for availbilty I have no clue.. Price I think was $129... don't qoute me on that though.. mightof been $179 (or was that the REDM.. I'm tired folks got home an hour ago way tooo much HOMEWORK!)

Talking Gee Whiz

I think we got a "Module of the Year" here! A module that doubles as a web cam, has flash memory and take great resolution pictures. Wow! And the best part about it is that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg!

I think it could be an interesting VCA next year. As far as module of the year goes, its a little early but as it looks now I think it will be a fight between the HandCam and Red M, the bluetooth module. Both I think are a sign of things to come. HandCam I think will be the beginning of many modules that have functionality both inside and outside the Visor. Red M is represenative of the wireless networking modules here and to come.

Visor of the year is still up in the air. Depends on if the Treos are included. If they are, then it will be the Treo 270.

About the webcam application:

Looking at the photo (and, admittedly, not having listened to the interview), it would appear that the lens doesn't swivel on any axis. So, I suppose the question is how exactly does it work as a webcam? I.E., if it has to sit in your sync cradle, then it would be looking up into the sky at a nearly 45 degree angle. Would you have to lay your Visor on its side?

Or does it work outside of the Visor on its own cradle or cable?

Curious. But looks sweet and meaty.
