Unhappy

Well my new Visor Edge came in last night. Its also broken. This time the backlight will not come on.

I must be the unluckiest Visor customer.

I also noticed that the software preload was different. There was a diagnostics application on my first Edge, but it is not here now.

Also the unit had been "fired up" previously. No welcome screen just the home screen.

Comments?

You probably got a refurbished unit. I've read in other threads that HS replaces damanged units with refurbs - which isn't necessarilly a bad thing, assuming the problems in the refurb were fixed properly.

When you call Handspring again for another RMA, you should ask to speak with a manager, to whom you can run down the problems with Edge #1 and Edge #2. After the manager is done apologizing profusely (they seem to be good at that), ask for a new Edge in a FACTORY SEALED RETAIL BOX. (IE: The box that your original Edge came in, complete with cradle, discs, etc.) That way you know you're not getting a refurb. That's what I ended up doing with my Prism, and I've been very happy since.

And by the way, you're not the unluckiest Visor owner ever. I went through 4 units (cracked cases, bad screens, one with a bad charge light) before I got a good one by using the method above.

My first Edge also had a dead backlight. This doesn't seem like a tough test to perform on the production line. It was easy to get replaced since I bought it from a retail store. I just took it back and swapped it out (after waiting for twenty minutes in the Fry's return line).

Angry Backlight on my Edge is gone

I have had my Edge for about a week now, and I love it. That is until I tried to turn on the backlight today and it didn't work. Now I am not sure if I should keep it or not. It sounds like I am not the only one having this problem. I still have about ten days left before I can return it. Any suggestions?
