Exclamation --@@ HELP Edge OR Prism @@--

Help guys

I'm considering getting a Visor Edge and Prism... because I realised that I can't live without expansion modules.......

So what I would like ANYONE of you who is reading this, can get me a photo of the thickness of the Edge and a Prism, that would be great.

I personally own a Deluxe and an IBM Workpad c3 (Palm Vx clone), and the Deluxe is like, 30% spoilt (no sound, has crack near power button). And I just dropped my Workpad c3 onto the ground hard in a aluminium hardcase... and the Datebook button has gone flat

I want a COLOR PDA, and something slim... but my options are very limited -- it's either a SONY Clie or the Palm m505 (and m500). BUT PERSONALLY, I dislike the SONY Clies... and I don't like the backing of the m500 series --> the backing is plastic!!

So, if anyone of you can get me any photo of the thickness of a the Edge and Prism's thickness, I will then make my decision from there.

My requirements would be that it has to be pocketable
And please, do not list any Sony Clies here.

I suggest going to compusa or bestbuy if you have one around your area to you can hold it in your hand. but to answer your question i say go for the Prism, it has color and the built in expansion with out the sleeve. This is key to me b/c my memplug has become part of my visor.

Well, I'm from Singapore, so there's no such things as CompUSA or BestBuy around
But there's a local eBay around but I have to say that the amount of Handspring Edge users in Singapore is very little... only a handful.

Well... color is tempting... and so it form factor.
The Sony Clie has both, but unluckily, I'm a sort of anti-SONY guy, so the Clie is out of my list.

Prism... yeah.. it's cool. But it's bulky. And thats what I don't like. I used to carry my Deluxe (in a leather book-style case) all about school, and it got messy when I had my hands full of stuff.
And that point is about form-factor. I need something slim..

And on the other hand, I've already owned 2 devices that are monochrome. The Prism has more accessories than the Edge... and including a reset pin! LOL. Yeah, I'll need that

Oh yah, doesn't anyone have any pictures at all? That would help A LOT. Thanks......

Argh.. Why am I answering all my own questions?!?!! LOL.

Feeling strange,
Andre

Sorry, no pictures of my Prism. I just got it a few months ago, when I upgraded from the Deluxe.

It IS thicker, but it is not that noticeable because of the way they curved the back. It does not fit into some cases designed for the Deluxe, but it is comfortable to carry in my pocket in the slipcase or, say, the Rhinoskin 1100 case.

I carry mine in my pocket about 99% of the time, and really do not notice it too often.

You know, somewhere I saw some pictures of a Prism, Deluxe, and Edge laying on top of each other to show their thicknesses. It might have been at www.the-gadgeteer.com- give them a try!

Hi Madkins
Thanks for the link... been there already.. but they don't have any comparision of how thick the Edge with the Springboard sled is, as compared to the Prism. I thought that it would make a better comparision.

Anyway... is the Prism really that pocketable?? I once tried stuffing my Deluxe into my jeans pocket and it was like I had a brick in there! That was the one of the reasons I got a Palm Vx clone (the IBM Workpad c3)... but I'm like running out of space on it.

Also, my Deluxe (I just checked) is almost dead. There's hardly any sound coming from it, there's a 2cm long crack at the power button, and gosh, I'm very upset, I have to say.

I am a big guy, and wearing things on my belt is uncomfortable and they tend to get hung up on chair arms, etc., so I either carry my Prism in a tote or in my pocket.

I usually carry it in my pocket in a slim-line pouch (Rhinoskin 1100, Handspring flex modulecase, original slip pouch) and have done so for several months now.

I do not feel much of a difference between the Deluxe in my pocket and the Prism- although if the Deluxe felt like a brick to you, then the Prism probably will as well. (Maybe your jeans are too tight )

I KNOW I saw a good comparison photo somewhere, but I cannot remember where! Sorry!

Well, I ain't that big a guy -- I'm only 5' 8" (I think) and dont weigh about 171 pounds

Well, if I get a Prism, it will probably end up somewhere on my belt or in my bag or something... my pockets arent that deep, and no, I don't wear jeans I wear slacks :P

The only side by side size comparison I ever saw was someone posted pics on another general Palm PDA site comparing the T615 to the Edge & Prism for size, thickness, etc.

I'll see if I can find it again, and post a link!

Come on- make up your mind- pants, slacks, or jeans? (Like we really care! )

If it is going on a belt or in a bag, then the thickness of the case would seem to be secondary to function and features- and price. One big reason I went with the Prism was sheer price- I got a good deal on it.

I calculated the cost of switching all my Visor stuff to another format along with the device price. This way, most of the modules are still 'live' and just a few cases, etc. had to be sacrificed!

Well, I still have one or two modules lying about... and I plan to get some more.. maybe from VC's Marketplace. But it depends on whether the guys there are willing to ship to Singapore... that's one thing.

And yeah. It's slacks/pants

Hi
Yup, I got a chance to play with one at a User Group Gathering recently, and I have to admit, the Prism fits really great in my hands!

And regarding the paint issue, hasn't it already been solved??

Cheers,
Andre.
