Just got the Pro
My Visor Deluxe died yesterday, so after much deliberation between the Neo and the Pro, I now hold in my hands a new silver Visor Pro. I have a backup module that I was planning on using, but I overlooked one thing, the module only has 8meg of memory. Has anyone tried backing up a Pro onto a 8meg card? What happens?

Look on PalmGear's site. I think there is a 16M backup module
on there. Handspring may have a link to one also.

Go for it...
I haven't tried it on a Pro, but my assumption is that as long as there is less than 8MB stored on your new Pro that there wouldn't be a problem.
Cases?
Ok, after I made sure I had everything backed up on the computer with Backup Buddy I tried it out. When I backed up to the 8mg Module it told me that it would not have enough room, but it asked if I would like back up as much as possible. I did that, but I have not restored from it to find out what it didn't back up... I don't think that would be a very good way to go about things anyways. I saw the 16meg module... but I couldn't really afford the Pro as it was (I am a student that works part time at a coffee shop, and I have a car to pay for) so I don't want to shell out 60 bucks for it if I can help it.
It really is amazing how fast you can fill up 16 meg... :-D
I have been looking for cases... I want one that will not add much thickness to the form of the Pro (I want to carry it in my pants pocket). I really want the kind that have a screen cover that flips up and behind the unit. Any suggestions?

16 mg backup
When you used the 8mb backup for the 16 mb unit, did you have a choice as to what would be backed up? Can you select to back up the non-Outlook stuff? I have a delux and a 16 mb Hagiwara with about 1/2 of the memory used on each. Other than the Outlook items, I mainly have to back up notes that I've added to medical programs that I use.
If I decide to get the pro, can I use the 16 mb memory expansion? How would I back up that?

The backup module gave me no options as far as what it would backup in the available 8meg of memory on the module. I still havn't restored from this partial backup, and I do not plan on doing so. I am going to send my 8meg backup module to my cousin (Just got a Deluxe for Christmas) and then get a SD/MMC Memplug when it comes out and use that for my backup. I can't wait until I can actually use my alarms! Vibrating alarm is so much more suited for the school environment than the audible alarm is. I don't want the thing taken away for playing the Mission Impossible theme song.

pro-less than I hoped for
Couldn't resist a new 16 mb PDA for $210 (thanks for the link). But I have two problems. My green VDX screen is easier to read than the pro in normal light. And the pro does not seem noticably faster. My PDA is loaded with programs so I use a lot of memory. If I stay with the pro, I'll probably get a memplug. If I stay with the dx, I'll just keep the 16mb flash which works fine. Anybody have any experience with the screen problem (at all contrast levels, by the way). Is the pro REALLY faster (I read somewhere in this forum that it isn't as fast as claimed. Any advice?

I have not had any trouble reading the screen on my Pro. If my Deluxe was not dead I would do a side by side.
As far as speed, SysInfo is telling me that the processor is clocked 100% at 28MHz... isn't it supposed to be a 33MHz processor? I used FastCPU for a while, and it had the default at 33MHz. Unfortunatly FastCPU messed up my keyboard and Documents to Go's sync program, so I don't use it anymore. I am a bit puzzled, but I did notice a speed increase from the Deluxe. I did a restore from the Deluxe to the Pro off of my 8meg backup module, and it could sort through those 8 megs much quicker than the Deluxe could. Now that I have the full 16 meg full though, it has slowed down again. I think some of the sluggish speed could be attributed to the fact that I am using Launch 'Em 3.1, which seems slower than the default PalmOS launcher.
BTW... does anyone know if Launch 'Em has external memory card support like Launcher III? I like Launch 'Em, but if I get the Memplug, I want the launcher to support it.
