Ok, so I know that the Microphone is only connected to the springboard. Has anybody figured out which pins? Would it be possible to do this:

1) use a couple of jumper cables to connect the microphone back to the ROM, in a jury-rigged springboard
2) Develop software that would allow us to use the damn thing.

Then I could utilize the mic without paying an arm/leg.

could this work?

It's not really possible to connect it back in that fashion, it's a bit more complicated than just connecting it "back to the rom".., you would need an ANALOG to DIGITAL converter chip, and at this point you are already on your way to building a full fledged springboard.. Sorry, I don't see any way to "jury-rig" it.
