-- Serial Cradle for Macintosh (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=828)
I ordered my visor over the weekend. I am going to be using it with a PowerMac 7200. Does the serial cradle that you can order from Handspring come with the serial port adaptor. As most of you know the serial ports on the mac are different then the ones on the pc's. I did order the serial cradle but didn't think to check to see if it comes with the adaptor or if I have to request it or buy it seperately.
Thanks
Yes as a fellow mac user, I can confirm the serial cradle comes with the mac adapter. I actually have a 68040 mac (performa), which I didn't think the hot sync would work on. To my surprise it works great

Hey guys:
I bought a Visor for my wife who's a Mac kind of gal. I got the serial cradle as well so I have both options (USB and Serial). I snuck a peek at her PowerMac (about a 2 year old model, don't remember the numbers) and I didn't see either a serial port or a Mac style port. Is it as easy to buy/install a serial board on a Mac as it is on a PC? If so then what should I look for/be careful of?
Thanks
Your mac will either have a macintosh serial port or a usb port. The mac. serial port doesn't look like a pc serial port. In either case if you order a visor and get the usb and serial cradle you will be good to go. Just make sure the mac is a power pc version. If you post the model #, I can tell you which ports you have, which cradle you will need and if it will run the current visor software.
All macs have serial ports (except the new candy colored and graphite G3's and G4's) in the back. They are 8-Pin Mini Din Style connectors. They look the same size as a PS/2 port on a pc (different pin arrangement obviously). Look for a small dot matrix printer icon (1/4" by 1/4") and a small phone handset icon with circles eminating from the stem of the handset. Both icon are above/beside the ports, and are 'embossed' into the plastic of the case.
