-- Sync Software Problems on Mac (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2980)
Hi
Had hard drive crash recently and needed to reinstall some software on my new hard drive including Handspring Desktop software. Downloaded software from Handspring site.
Tried to install but at end of installation get message 'software did not install successfully. Either reinstall or quit'.
Called Handspring tech support yesterday . After 4 tech support calls no success. All they mainly tell you to do is trash all the software pieces, restart, and reinstall.
One said to unplug my cradle from the USB port before software installation and redownload software from website (1 hour, 20 minutes).
On my fourth call the guy said he was going to have a Mac specialist call me in the afternoon, but he hasn't called yet.
Anyone had this problem and have solution?? I use PM8500/G3 400 card and MacOS9.04.
Before I had to get a new hard drive sync worked fine.
Thanks for any advice.
Frustrated Visor User
I seem to remember something like this when I installed on my 8100/G3, and that it worked fine after I chose quit at the prompt.
Escargonaut
When I upgraded to the latest Handspring Mac software, I had the same problem with the installer. However, it appears that that message at the end of the installation process may be the only real bug. Like Escargonaut, I've found that everything actually seems to work in spite of that message.
Hi again,
Thanks for the input. I had a feeling this might be the case as I did go ahead and try using the desktop software (which seems to work) and synching with my Visor, which worked the first time but after that no luck.
I get an error message on my Visor after it beeps and starts sync process that 'connection with desktop has been lost' and sync is stopped.
Any ideas??? The supposed Mac specialist at Handspring that was supposed to call me hasn't.
Thanks again for your help.
Mark
Hi MarkS,
While you're waiting for Handspring to call you back, you could try reinstalling the version of Mac software that you had running before, because some of us Visorcentral members have had problems running the latest Handspring software. I still can't get any of the software that I download to work on my Mac, receiving nothing but failure to connect errors. Anyway, hope you get your problem sorted out
.
Hey MarkS, I was having the same problem on my Mac w/OS 9.0.4 (Which you probably have, right?). Well 9.0.4 makes some changes with the USB system, which causes syncing to goof like 90% of the time. I had the same problem with the software that came with my Visor, it was driving me nuts! Anyway, download the patch @ http://www.palm.com/support/macintosh/hsupdate.html and you should be set!
Hope this helps!
Peace
