-- Exporting from Palm Desktop to Outlook? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2319)
I'm not happy with Palm Desktop (don't like the week view on the calendar) and want to try Outlook. But I can't seem to get my data from Desktop to Outlook. I've tried export/import and that doesn't work. Anyone done this successfully?
What about setting up PocketMirror and then syncing with Outlook? I'm not sure of the procedure, since I still use the Palm Desktop.
I'm guessing that you're having problems because you can only export Calendar in dba format. If that's the case and you have a Yahoo account, you can import into Yahoo Calendar and then export into Outlook format. This is a good option if you just want to see what it will look like in Outlook. But to sync you're gonna need to install pocket mirror (or some other conduit) anyway, as was stated in the previous post.
I'm really mostly concerned about the contacts rather than the calendar. In Palm Desktop I can export to a tab delimited text file. And Outlook says I can import such a file. The problem is, it just doesn't work! I hoped someone here had actually tried it!
Thanks for the tip on the calendar part. I'll see about setting up a Yahoo account so I can do a three-step import!
I knew I'd have to reinstall Palm Desktop from the CD, this time choosing Outlook, in order to get Pocket Mirror set as the conduit. Thanks
Actually, you can do the same thing with Contacts in Yahoo as you can with Calendar. First, export the Address book from Palm Desktop in archive (.aba) format.
Go to your Yahoo address book and select Import/Export from the menu near the bottom.
Import the Palm Desktop .ABA file (select Palm Desktop ABA from the dropdown) and then export in Microsoft Outlook format. Then go to Outlook and import the file you just created. I've done it; it works.
I just re-read your post and see that you don't already have a Yahoo account so my last post might be more work than necessary.
You should be able to import tab or csv directly into Outlook. You said that this did not work but did not say exactly what went wrong. Could you provide more details?
I'm running the palm desktop and outlook 2000. It was a pain at first, but once you install the pocketmirror from the handspring CD you're good to go.
its in palmsfw/disk1/Pocket Mirror
once you install it you can sync up all of your contacts and calendars and all that.
