Hi,

Is handspring visor is a USB device by itself? Does USB cradle act just like a cable to convert the shapes of the connectors? Or does it has some circuit in the cradle to convert the signals also?
Assume USB Cradle consists purely some wire to change to the USB connector(plus a signal like to trigger the hotsync), then can I assume that the serial cradle is a USB-Serial port adapter?

So far I can not "see" visor as USB device from both iMac and windows 98 using those tools like usbcheck, HIDview on the windows side and USB DDK on Apple side.

I think there was some discussion about this on the "Accessories" forum. Basically, the Visor has both USB and Serial pins on the docking connector. The different cradles make use of the different pins, although I do know that the serial cradle at least has some internal hardware as well.

The serial cradle has a circuit in it to convert the Visor's TTL-level RX and TX to RS-232 for the PC.

The USB cradle is an entirely different beast. There was a thread here that talked about converting to a "dual" cradle supporting both USB and serial.

What I'm waiting for (and currently working on) is a true serial cable for carry-in-my-pocket use.
