My visor intermittently locks up . on start up displaying the p palm logo in an endless loop. Forcing my to chose to reset the os erasing all data not already backed up. I know my visor is effected by the 8mb memory problem. And Installed the patch hoping to correct the problem. Is my visor a piece of carp or is there some hope?

Not sure if it is a piece of carp or not, but could it be the software you have on it? If it does this without any 3rd party software (ie, just the installed apps) then it is definitely a bad Visor.

I've had a somewhat similiar problem where my visor would reset itself every three or four power cycles. Turned out to be a bad Visor.

Handspring claims that certain batteries can screw things up as well. Not sure why, but you may want to try a different set to see what happens.
