Have any of you dropped your visor yet? I'm curious how much/little physical impact will break it... I'm hoping for little response to this question, but I would like to hear from those who learned the hard way.

Did tossing it onto a hard surface from 3 inches high hurt the thing??

I bent over the other day and it fell out of my shirt pocket onto the basement concrete floor. I guess it droped about 2 feet. I was in a panic until i turned it on and it still worked.

I dropped it a couple times. Once from about 10 inches (no case or cover) onto concrete, once about 2ft and once from about 3ft (these last two in the leather case) onto concrete.

It's fine and no scratches yet *crossing fingers*. It still works fine. Maybe it is as durable as an HP calculator? Hahah...anyone care to test this?

I must be running out of lives tho.

My son dropped my green Vdx from about three feet onto our hardwood floor. Only sign of this trauma is a small crack leading out from the memo button. No problems with functionality at all. Plastic cover was on back and it, but not the Visor, is now slightly warped- only notice it when its on the back and I lay the Visor on a flat surface.

I just dropped my visor about 10 minutes ago. It slipped out of my coat pocket and onto a concrete floor. Results: 1 dead Visor. It has a crack going all the way across the screen. The unit still powers up, and responds to the buttons, but thats it. Anyone know how much to get a new screen?

I think that JWads is correct about the replacement screen being $75. There was an interesting thread about screen replacements by customers for scratches. Not sure if you read it but here's the thread: http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/001173.html

Girlfriend dropped her visor from the kitchen counter onto the floor (approx 4 feet?) without the cover on..bare Visor!

it froze, completely on the screen that was showing. non of the buttons worked, not even the power button.

i did a soft reset and after a few seconds of complete terror...it worked fine!

BE SOoo CAReful! I droped mine out of my pocket with the cover on and the screen cracked. It was about 3-4 feet up. Get a cover to protect your investment. I know I will when the new one comes in the mail.

Along the same lines, I've been toting my Visor Deluxe in my hip pocket. This is fine when I'm in slacks, but it was just getting hammered when I was in Levis. I just got, yesterday, in the mail, a Rhinoskin Shocksuit. Cost me 40 bucks. Honestly, it's a little funny-looking. For me, though, it's absolutely worth it. It gets my device out of my pocket, and onto my belt where (I think) it belongs, and it's might tough. I'm confident that if I drop it I'll be ok. The Suit's pretty tough.

And......Alright......It's looks are growing on me.

Dropped mine two weeks ago, and all is still well. No cracks, no parts rattling around the inside, and no additional flex. The fall was from 3 - 4 feet onto a hard office floor.

My wife's slipped out of the case. It's a 3com zippered leather case, but the Velcro can only be attached to the Springboard cover. So it actually slipped off the Springboard cover. Careened off a HARD tile floor from 3-4 feet up.

No cracks, no pings. Hit on, and even got the last app opened. Relief.

We took the velcro off the SB cover and restuck it to the std Visor protective cover, so it's held by both the velcro and the lid now.

I have dropped my GVD many times

It still works, but I have to hold the power button for an extra few seconds for it to turn off/on... annoying, but hey, it still works!

Last night at a basketball game, my niece untied my shoe. I bent over to tie it, and the visor tumbled out of my pocket. It bounced down two steps of the bleachers (concrete) with enough force to send the stylus flying. (I later saw a lady holding it up, showing it to her friend with an expression like "What's this?") Fortunately, it was in the leather slip case with the cover on, so no damage at all, except for the missing stylus, which was later recovered. Whew!

For those of you worried about dropping your Visor and "killing" it, there is insurance coverage available. If you have a Homeowner's Policy and you have a Personal Article's Floater (used for jewelry, collectibles, cameras, etc.)you can add the Visor to the P.A.F. which has very broad coverage. Many of these floaters are available with no deductible, breakage is a covered peril, theft and "mysterious disappearance" (you leave it somewhere, come back and it's gone) is also generally included. It's worth checking out with your insurance agent.

I have dropped mine twice from 3 plus feet. Luckily no damage. Now I am less worried about such events. My BVD is in a Rhodiana case. A great case at a resonable price.

As a follow-up to my previous dead visor post, I just got my replacement today. They do have a 72 hour hot-swap available, you just have to insist on it to get it. Unfortunatly, they lost my first contact with them, and I had to wait almost two weeks, instead of the promised 72 hours. We shall see if this affect how much they charge me for the screen ($75 is what I was told). As for the new unit, it a brand new one, revision B for anyone that has followed that post. I had downloaded a copy of Backupbuddy and was using the demo version when my unit commited suicide. When I get home tonight I will see how well it restores everything. Wish me luck!

Dropped my Visor earlier today, it slipped while try to put it in the cradle. It bounced off of the shelf, off of my monitor, off of my tower, onto my desk. No visible scratches..everything works fine.

Dropped mine twice so far. Once in the bathroom that caused the the software to lock up, the P symbol just kept flashing. Had to do a hard reset. The second drop was outa my shirt pocket bending over on to concrete. It landed right on the stylus and jamed it under a little lip in the back of the stylus hole, couldn't get the little bugger out Had to take the thing apart.

My Visor is Blue....

It looks like nobody has realized the fact that the most sensitive part of your Visor is your IR beam. Yes, the red thing on the left side of your devise. I'm sure about it because I have experienced that problem. Also, if you shake it too much, your beam capability will be reduced or unstable. You will get messages like "Beam Interrupted." So if you've dropped your devise at least once or have shake it too much try to beam somebody anything bigger than 5k. I think the best thing for this problem is to defintely buy a good case and also forget about running with your Visor while it is in your pocket or belt. Save yourself a beam disaster...
